Uh, yeah…pass on this one.

I’m so confused about these reviews and those on the Marriott app. This is one of the worst Marriotts we have ever stayed at. It’s honestly disappointing that this is even allowed into the Marriott brand as it doesn’t meet any sort of standards. Place is beyond the need of a remodel and felt a step above a super 8.

I used my Marriott points for the stay. Otherwise, it was over $200 per night and wouldn't have been worth it. The hotel is rated 3 star, which I would say it is barely a 3 star, maybe a 3- star or a 2.5 star hotel. The buildings are definitely older, but there have been some renovations done. I'm not a big fan of the entry door being outside, it sort of gives me a motel feel when it your room door leads straight outside. Most of the outdoor structure is ok. If you look underneath some of the wood structures, the paint is seriously coming off and some of the wood looks like it is rotting or coming apart. The rooms are spacious. Carpet is ok, the kitchen is decent. Counter tops are fine, with dishwasher, microwave, frig, oven, utensils, plates, cups, etc. The bed and decor are ok too. The wooden desk had a few scratches on it. The sofabed couch didn't look that great, maybe replace that. My biggest complaint about the room was the smell. It was most likely the chain smoking old woman right across from from me, who was chain smoking the entire time right outside my front door. The room stank of smoke, and I hate the smell of smoke. Not sure the hotel could do much about this, but this definitely was a negative for the stay. We could hear the upstairs people when they were walking outside moreso than when they were walking in their room. Room was clean, and they do try to make the place a 3 star. the front desk Kevin was very friendly. The grab and go breakfast is ok, with breakfast sandwiches and oatmeal you can heat up, yogart, fruit, etc.
Really needs a makeover

We stayed one night to visit the college before heading to South Bend. I had a lot of Marriott points and I’ve been using points mostly on this trip. If I had more Hilton points, we would have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, which is what I recommend. Property looks run down, I seriously wonder if it would meet brand standards if someone from corporate visited. Half the rooms are on the second floor, which means you would have to drag your suitcases up the stairs since there’s no elevator. We waited for a room to open up on the groundfloor. Reception was very nice, I just think the property needs a serious makeover to get up to brand standards. Rate was surprisingly high for this type of property.
