Stayed hear well travelling though and it was a pleasant stay. It was very traditional and clean. The room was very basic with a fridge and a t.v and with heating that worked very well. The view from our room was pretty amazing of Meteora too. The staff was very pleasant and the breakfast we did have was good.
Alsos House is a beautiful hotel at the foot of Meteora. I think there was no better option for us. The location is unbeatable, it was comfortable, clean. The staff very friendly and helpful and the included breakfast was fair and delicious. This hotel has a very special charm. In addition, there is no better option if you also want to do hiking because there begins the trail to the monasteries.
Best view in Kalampaka.
Alsos House it’s a great place to stay, close to the hiking point up to Meteora , we stayed there a few days and it was the most relaxing time there!! Breakfast was good, the owner is very nice and a great musician, the fire place in the dining area is perfect for cozy nights by a glass of wine!!
Great views, alpine chalet feel, lots of room
Quick response when I made some initial inquiries. Staff were helpful and very laid back. I was able to pay by credit card with no extra charges. The hotel is quite pretty, sort of alpine chalet feel to it which I really liked. Bit of a rabbit warren of rooms, it seems they've taken over a few houses and combined them, but it's all been done very well and relatively recently, judging by the newness of the finishes. When we were there, they were doing renovations to add a family room but these were scheduled to be finished in time for summer 2019. Didn't hear any noise from them at all. The hotel extends up the hill so depending on which room you get, you might have a couple of flights of stairs to go up. I initially chose it to make sure we'd have a good view of the outcrops but you can see them from the whole town so it's not too much of a consideration. I chose a balcony room and it had spectacular view up at the outcrops with a very large balcony out the front (shared with the room next door). Had we stayed longer than one night, it would have been lovely to sit out there in the evening. The room was finished well, with a new bathroom and new window and door. It was large, with a queen and single bed in it, and room enough for our 2 suitcases and assorted hand luggages. The bed was really comfortable, unlike a lot of Greek hotel beds which were rock hard. Lots of light. It was very hot when we were there and the room didn't get too warm, although we did use the airconditioning to cool it down at the end of the day (didn't need it at night). I loved the huge shower - after a few weeks of tiny showers with clinging shower curtains, I really appreciated this luxury! If you're into big breakfasts, the breakfast at Alsos might not be enough for you but it was fine for us with the usual Greek choices - yoghurt, toast and cereal etc. I'd recommend this as a good place to stay if you've got a car. Disliked · Minor things - Not that they can change this, but it's not really near the centre of town and further from the train station. It's only a short drive to get dinner but probably a bit long to walk if you don't have a car, especially during winter. It's a little hard to find, tucked up the back of the town on a minor street. I had a look on Google Maps before I went which made it a bit easier to find when we drove there.
Amazing View & Exceptional Location for Hiking!
I stayed for 3 nights at Alsos House during October 2019. The room is cosy, comfortable and the views from the room's balcony is amazing! The AC & water heater works well. There is a footpath (about 2-3 minutes walk away) where you can hike up to one of the monasteries in an hour's time. The path is very well marked, just follow the red & white "MTR" (Meteora Trail Running) signs. The property's location is exceptional for people who like hiking. The staff are helpful and they can assist to arrange for tours and phone the bus station to book tickets for you. However, do note that the property is uphill and a distance from the centre (approximately 800m - 1km) where all the restaurants, shops & bus station are located. It is easy to walk downhill to the centre but can be tiring to climb back uphill after dinner. Overall, the property is at an exceptional value for the price, I would not hesitate to stay again and would highly recommend it.
