All would be great if not the railroad...
To be fair, Thompson Hotel is pretty good, even though a bit dated. The rooms are clean and spacious. Amenities as expected. We stayed first week of June, so the hotel was still on a very slow get-to-normal trajectory. They have a pool with a hot tub, which would have been amazing if not for corona closure. A large family entertainment room with arcade machines, games, and tons of fun would be awesome too if not for the closures. Due to the same travel restrictions, the included breakfast was extremely limited - nothing not expected given the situation. Special compliments to Thompson Hotel staff who were top notch! Both check-in and check-out guys were absolutely fabulous, flexible, accommodating, and super-nice. I would have given the place a much higher rating, if not for the location. LOCATION is no more than 100m from railway juncture. Unfortunately, nothing they can do about heavily loaded trains passing through at night and early morning, so much so that the building is shaking and there is so much noise, no one could sleep. So I do not recommend this location to anyone who is a light sleeper. Otherwise - bring your earplugs!
The outside of the hotel seems not that great but once inside, it’s good. It’s very clean, rooms are pretty good and the bed was super comfortable. The staff were super friendly as well. What I didn’t like was the amount of noise. There was a hockey team staying on the same floor and must have had an early game. At 6am the doors started opening and closing and this went on for over an hour. You could also hear the voices in the hall. The garbage trucks came by early and were also noisy. If you are a light sleeper then I would suggest ear plugs. Parking spots are tricky. If you have a bigger vehicle you will have a tight fit. Brewery right across the driveway is a bonus!!
My hockey teams have been staying at the Thompson for a few years, and since my wife and I are team managers every year we book back at the Thompson on every opportunity. This past weekend was phenomenal. They have updated the lounge so that our team's players were fully entertained while the parents socialized and watched the Battle of Alberta on the nice leather couches. The breakfast was good. The place was very team team friendly. The staff were courteous and professional. We didn't have a single issue in 13 rooms. In the past we booked the conference room for pizza, but this time we had the entire games room to ourselves so we ate there. This is not a brand-new hotel, but they are also not uptight and you don't feel like you have to keep your children at arms length the entire time. There are a couple options very close by for food and craft beer. There is also a liquor store a short walk away. Save On is a bit further down the block, and Starbucks next to there. It is quite close to the old arena, fairly close to the Blazers big arena, and about a ten minute drive to McArthur Island's complex. Their office staff is excellent. If you are looking for a team booking, look no further.
Not if it’s going to snow
Stayed here for one night before starting a tour. Good for parking and good value but the hotel is a bit tired. Beware though that if it snows even a small amount one of the car parks at the back of the hotel starts ploughing very noisily at 5 am.
Terrible - Beware!
We stayed here because it was supposedly “pet friendly“. There were 3 of us plus 2 dogs. The room was so small you had to go outside to change your mind, and it was only set up for 2 people, not 3. There were not enough facecloths or coffee cups. When I asked for coffee cups in the morning, I was offered paper cups. I asked if I could get some glass cups from the breakfast room, but was told it was not open and housekeeping was not there yet. It was about 7:30am. They charged us $40.00 for the first dog and $20.00 for the second dog. Highway robbery! There is no place nearby to walk the dogs. We finally found a small patch of lawn by an office building. The parking area is terrible. We drive a half-ton and the parking spaces are designed for compact cars. The remote for the television wouldn’t turn on the tv. We had to call the front desk. The attendant moved the tv to access the manual buttons. The hallways need to be painted and upgraded. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone for any reason.
