The lovely Serena Kigo
I love the personal space they provide. The rooms are hidden in very well tended vegetation with most of them having a view of the lake-a lovely sight to wake up to. Its only about 20 or so minutes to the airport as well. lovely place.
Quality of room, service and access to golf course saves the day
Twenty nine days at the resort allowed me to truly experience much of it. The grounds are beautiful and very spacious. Be aware, the room pods are built on the hills and if you have difficulty with a walk to the main building, make sure you ask for a room CLOSE or within the building. My walk was up hill and I found myself breathing a bit hard by the time I reached the restaurant/bar/lobby. My balcony offered a great view of the golf course. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Service was great. Food was average except for the Nile perch filet, which was remarkable. Prepared in a mustard based sauce, the light and flakey Nile perch filet was just a delete to eat. Breakfast buffet was nice but get there at 7:00 to find everything out. I was always there at 6:30, sharp and found the set up incomplete and the egg chef seldom present. I must mention DEO, Joan, Kristine and Joanna as servers standing out. The resort has a well-kept 18 hole golf course on Lake Victoria. What made it stand out is its location. It is a difficult course to play as it offers significant water hazards and bunkers to negotiate. When compared to my Northern Virginia experiences, this course compares to the well kept Prince William or Quantico Marine Corp base Medal of Honor course. So, I rate it a 3.5 out of 5. However, its location on Lake Victoria just places it in a category of a 4 to 4.5. Golf starter Patrick and caddies Richard and Nelson were outstanding employees and knew the course and greens quite well. The resort now relies on internet TV, 100%. It was constantly buffering and often down. channel choices were great, truly international, e.g. Chinese news, BBC, Al Jazeera, CNN, FOX and MSNBC. The internet was troubled, creating difficulty for those of us on business trips to get our work finished. Mine was a four week long trip and the internet troubles interfered with a smooth payment of my personal and business bills. Overall, I rate the resort a 4 out of 5 and would return.
Be careful of theft of items from your room
Stayed there over Christmas with my family. Good location but was disappointed by the buffet, and the TVs in the rooms did not work. On the third day, my sunglasses in a clear case were stolen from my room. Informed hotel staff during check out, not much effort to try to find them considering the only people allowed in the rooms are the people who clean them. They also have odd rules like the pool beds are only for people in the pool with swimming costumes on, and no food allowed into the hotel, including left overs from the lunch you ate in the car on the way to resort. Options given were to either eat it in the parking lot or throw it away. Ended up being disappointed about the trip overall. Advice to management is to take theft seriously!!!
Beautiful grounds but dated facilites
Beautiful property overlooking the lake. The resort grounds feel like being at a holiday resort by the sea. The hotel facilities are a bit dated though. The rooms would do with a little remodelling and the gym is old and not even air-conditioned. The food is also not very exciting and since the hotel is isolate it's far from anything decent. Overall very pleasant.
