Ideal estancia corta

Beautiful grounds and pool!

The Heron House is actually 2-3 houses with a pool in the middle. It is gated for privacy and security. If you’ve never been to Key West there are some things you should be aware of: Almost everywhere the parking situation is terrible. The Heron House has no parking except on street. Luckily, we have a handicap plackard and were able to park reasonably close. Most hotels are old historic homes. Heron House is made up of several old homes, so don’t expect everything to be new! Heron House is located in the historic district pretty close to everything. There were multiple restaurants within walking distance and shops too. The town is very busy, but Heron House gave us a nice place to relax and sleep. Our room was just like 12 feet to the pool! There are nice porches from the rooms attached to the pool area with lounges and tables and chairs. In the morning there was a continental breakfast which we ate outside. The grounds are gorgeous! I loved all the palms and flowers and the lazy kitty cat lying by the pool made me feel at home. We met some super nice people at the pool and had some great conversations. My only complaint is that they need to do a much better job cleaning the rooms. There was a lot of dust everywhere. Otherwise, we had a nice stay. This is an adults only hotel so don’t take the kids!
Keep an open mind!

Right before our trip I started reading the most recent reviews of this place and I got scared. There were quite a few negative comments. I turned off my phone and thought it's too late now...and prayed. We flew into Miami at noon and check in at Heron House was until 5ish. I thought we should have no problems getting there on time. 5 hours to rent a car and drive to Key West is a piece of cake....until the line for the car was massive and it took 2.5 hours to finally exit the airport! So already our trip was starting off shakey. As we get close to Key West, Chuck from Heron calls and asks how long...he then said he would wait for us. I thought that was so kind being that we were to arrive at 630 now! We finally make it and we were very pleased with the grounds and our room. Everything was super clean and comfy. The pool was great....good size and the water was warm...so do not think after a hot day in the sun you will take a dip and refresh..but nevertheless it was great. The sign says it's open from dawn to dusk but we swam well into the night. Chuck was great and went out of his way to make our stay fantastic. The coffee in the morning was excellent and they have a nice choice of fresh bakery items for breakfast. I highly recommend Heron. It was worth our little stay here!
Good location, poor on everything else

When we booked this location to stay for our first Key West visit, we had high expectations based on the online reviews and the price we paid. However, we have since learned that hotel prices are VERY expensive in Key West, and it's best to keep expectations low. We paid somewhere in the $200 range, and felt that what we got for it was equivalent to an $80-100/night room elsewhere. I've listed the pros and cons of our room/experience, and will let you be the judge. After learning more about the area, we will likely opt for a VRBO or other rental house for our next Key West visit.
-Very close to Duvall street - easy walking distance.
-Decent breakfast selection, good coffee.
-Supplied beach towels.
-Has fridge in room.
-Pool was small, but well maintained.
-Outside courtyard was pleasant and relaxing.
-Good WiFi connections.
-In room safe.
-The bed was hard and the pillows were harder.
-The window and door blinds were broken and dusty.
-The floor in the bathroom was sunken, causing the toilet to sit forward slightly. This caused a problems for my husband: if he tried to stand up, the toilet seat slammed forward (so I had to use a mask to act as a sling to keep it up), or if he sat down, the toilet was so low that he got a ball bath every time.
-Shower curtain, bathroom walls and ceiling were moldy, and bathroom is without a vent.
-The ironing board cover was torn and discolored.
-There were not enough places to hand wet items - towels, swim suits, etc.
-There was old and moldy leftover food in the fridge, which made me question how well the room was cleaned.
-The shower is tiny
-Has window box AC
-We tried to call ahead with questions, no answer, and never received a return call to the voicemail left.
-We had to empty our own trash cans/service our own room
-No extras in the room, like toiletries, coffee maker, etc.
-No alcohol/bar on site, although one day there was some sort of unofficial happy hour that we found out about later from other guests.
-The whole room was dusty.
-The hot food items for breakfast were heated in the microwave.
Very chill place to stay in KW

Really fabulous place to stay. Super chill and relaxing. Pool is easily accessible, and the rooms have everything you need - good AC and a fridge. Also, it’s adults only, so no little kids running around the pool. (I have 3 kids and remember those days of pool going with them - if you have kids, you’ll know what I mean about rambunctious kids at a pool :) ) Good location, close to Duval, but quiet at night. Mary the house cat is soooo sweet :) Rent bikes to ride around the island - as walking, even in May, can be quite hot. Will return to Key West and will stay at Heron House!
