A safe haven
We are very grateful to the Four Points for even being open. We stayed there for four nights. We needed somewhere to go between the sale of our house and the final possession of our condominium. We were originally booked in another hotel, which unceremoniously notified us that it was cancelling our booking because it was closing in response to the pandemic. The Four Points turned out to be the ONLY place left in Kingston that was still taking in guests. Staying in a hotel during a pandemic is an eerie experience. There were very few guests--when we arrived we were told occupancy was 5%. We saw almost no one. There was also almost no one working at the hotel. There was a caretaker, whose main job seemed to be to remove garbage. There was always someone on the front desk. Two young women seemed to share this job, and we appreciated their friendly, kind, relaxed demeanours. And there was a cleaner whom we saw once. For safety, we chose not to have our room cleaned, and we carried out our own garbage to receptacles by the elevator and on the ground floor. There were no services at the hotel--the pool and the restaurants were closed, and though we were told the exercise room was open, it seemed unwise to use it. We ate three meals a day in the room, all of them obtained from local restaurants. The place was VERY quiet. The bed was comfortable. The water pressure in the bathroom was good. We were happy to have a small fridge where we could keep some of our food, and a microwave. The wifi was reliable. The one thing that was very disappointing was the tv. We were overwhelmed by the onslaught of bad news on most regular channels, and wanted to watch something that would take our minds off the pandemic. But the hotel did not offer movies. When we inquired at the front desk, we were told that we could access Netflix--if we already had it. We did not. So we were reduced to watching HGTV and TLC, not the best choices, but the only alternatives to terrible news about infections and deaths.
Convenient Downtown Location
The hotel is located in a convenient area downtown, close to shopping, restaurants and local tourist sites. It is comfortable and clean. Parking is extra. Breakfast is extra, not included. There was a hot water problem which they fixed quickly by giving us a nicer/better room.
Stayed here while attending a conference on sight
Its a nice, clean, quiet hotel decorated in the cookie-cutter style now popular. Facilties are comfortable and the staff are professional and congenial. The hotel is on the waterfront, so depending on the weekend there might be a regatta or powerboat display down below in the marina. If you dont like hearing powerful engines, ask for a room on the city/west streets side rather than overlooking the marina.
Worst of the Worst
This was, tragically, one of the worst experiences I have had. I was in town tending to my terminally ill mother at the KGH hospital and assured by the sales staff that the hospital connected me with, that I would receive a special rate due to our delicate situation. The first night of my reservation, I fell asleep at my mother side a never made it back to the hotel. In the morning I received a phone call from the hotel informing me that I had been checked out of my room and my belongings were waiting for me at the front desk. I attempted to explain that there must be some error and that my reservation was for 3 nights, but an agent names Doug told me there was no conversation to be had and re-iterated that my belongings were waiting for me. I rushed back to the hotel and waited in line for at least 30 minutes, only to be informed that I had been moved to another hotel near the highway on the other side of town because the hotel was overbooked AND that front desk staff were not aware of the special rate we were promised by sales staff. I attempted to explain my situation but the front desk agent but I guess this annoyed him because the next thing he did was bing my bags out of his office and excort them outside, leaving them on the sidewalk as he returned to his desk. All told, my one night accommodation (which I spend by my ill mother hospital bed), cost me nearly as much as the previously agreed upon rate for 3 nights. When I refused to pay, the staff informed me that I must speak with the hotels General Manager to sort out the issue. However he was not in the building, despite it being a weekday, within business hours. It has been 6 weeks and the property GM, Andre Holmes, has not returned any of my phone calls or emails. Nor have I heard from any of the sale staff I was connected with via the hospital. Unfortunately I cannot recall her name, however staff at KGH have confirmed there is usually just one person who they work with. I have refuted the charge with my credit card company but this is not as simple as one might think. This entire experience has felt more like a scam than hospitality and is frankly shameful. My advice: NEVER STAY HERE. This hotel clearly has a problem that starts at the top and goes all the way down. I will be sharing my story with local journalists in the hope that others will not have to suffer from an experience like this.
Very comfortable beds, great service!
Stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton in Kingston while on a business trip. I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious room and very comfortable bed. Initially, I was worried that the bed would not be comfortable, and make my lower back pain flare up. The bed was very supportive and I enjoyed 2 great night sleep! The room and all public spaces were very clean - certainly a feat because there was quite a bit of snow and mud outside. The best part of this property is the staff. Very responsive, welcoming and helpful. I needed to use the business centre printer and the front desk staff made sure that the printer was problem - free and fully stocked. Shout out to Ron Cyr, night manager on duty both nights I was there, as well as the manager in training who was also working alongside him. Very friendly, welcoming, and really took their time to make sure that our group was warmly welcomed.
