Nice place for a winter breather

Reviewed 5 march, 2020

We used two days here while on an extended photo trip to the region. There are winter activities available but I just chilled. The hotel is very modern and stylish. Lots of cultural references to the Ainu ( original inhabitants of the north island). You can use the totems on the property as foreground for the nightly fireworks display. Small town surrounds the property and is basically a touristy place. I did find a delicious meal in a small restaurant near by. The baths located inside the hotel are really nice. They range from hot, to hotter to really hot. Ajoining this hotel is another section which apparently caters more to the locals. Very interesting shops and the food there is even more varied . Check this out!

Terrific Sister onsen

Reviewed 9 october, 2019

This is our fourth stay here . This time we stayed in a lake facing room- fantastic view of the lake . Dinner was at Hapo but it was very crowded and they put us with the Chinese section which was unpleasant as the neighbouring diners were extremely noisy . Food wise , we felt that the standards have dropped somewhat . It did not have that wow factor that we remembered on our previous first and second stay but was still good . Onsens wise still very good . Parking is now no longer free. Charge 400 yen . Felt that the parking charge should not be imposed .

Excellent facilities, great outdoor onsen

Reviewed 22 september, 2019

Stayed one night on a half board package which cost around£200. Excellent service (valet parking JPY400 per night). One of the ladies on reception spoke excellent English. Japanese style largish room with lake view. Initially set up for seating and then converted to bedding in the evening. Tiny toilet/shower room. Tea and coffee. No where to place luggage as the wardrobe was used to store bedding. Based on room alone it's only 4*. Dinner was an extensive buffet with just about everything you could want. Very busy but very well managed with plenty of everything. Breakfast the same. I even managed to fashion a kind of full English knowing there was a lot of Japanese down the road. The best bit is the outside onsen which is shared between men and women at different times. The front desk will explain when you check in. To get to this you need to go to the adjoining hotel (part of the same building). Don't go to the one in the wings itself which is pretty standard indoor. The outdoor ones swap between the ground floor one and the roof one. Choose these with the grind floor bring the best. I gave it 5* on the facilities and buffet. Not sure we'll get a better onsen in our visit to Japan.

Terrific hot spring spa on the top!

Reviewed 26 february, 2019

It's located beside the lake , and near to another tsuruga hotel which can share dinning rooms and spas . Food is plentiful , fresh and delicious . Hot spring spas are terrific! There are several spa locations including indoors and outdoors. On the top of the hotel, there is an outdoor spa which can watch the whole lake! Wonderful ! There are shuttle buses to hotel from different places , they are convenient but need reserve . A little bit expensive
