Great Location but DISAPPOINTED with the hotel
My family and I stayed here for 1 night and is a perfect location to the water. The only thing I enjoyed in the room was the balcony looking at the crashing waves. Other than that, there were so many problems with the room; the carpet was dirty, paint chipping off the walls, the floor and outer area of the tub was dirty. I had difficulty breathing and realized once we were about to leave that it was due to the dirt and dust covering the air conditioner vents. I was very disappointed that there was no television in the second bedroom and no iron in the closet. If you are in a hurry, don’t waste your time taking the elevator which is old and extremely slow. This place definitely needs renovating and a good deep cleaning from housekeeping. It is more of MOTEL not a hotel.
Poorly Maintained, Strange Property
They whole property is undergoing renovation or maybe condo/timeshare conversion. The un-renovated section is what is still open as motel. Aesthetics: very drab and unappealing. The units all face the ocean but the whole rear area through which you access them feels like an dank airshaft. No interior hallways. Room carpet is circa ninteen-seventies, I'm guessing. Shower was not operative. The knob you pull to change the water flow from bath to shower faucet was frozen. A/C did not work, and it was quite warm. The balconies are weird. Each adjacent balcony is separated by just a low barrier you could step right over so that your neighbors are sitting right next to you, like you're sharing a patio with strangers. Not very romantic. Even lying on the bed I could see the people on the next-door balcony. No privacy and it's also a security issue. Since the view is the one real plus here a reluctance to use the balcony is a serious minus. This is not a hotel; it's a motel. No amenities except for a pool. No food and beverage. No useable common areas. Exterior hallways. No coffee in rooms; no coffee downstairs. It is apparent the owners are putting all money into the renovation/conversion and have fairly abandoned the remaining motel space. The motel's one good feature is location, across the street from the cove and walkable to retail and restaurant. Hence the reluctant two stars.
Stay for the location!
We decided to stay for a night, the view is unbeatable so relaxing you can hear the crashing wave, we enjoyed the balcony, perfect for sunrise and sunset. The room definitely needs update, they are renovating; staffs are nice and helpful, we got the ocean view king suit, parking is $25 a night.
Honeymoon in La Jolla
We took our honeymoon at the La Jolla Cove Hotel & Suites. We rate the trip 5 stars. The room was lovely, the stay was nice. What really made the trip was the people. There was Cody, Ann Marie and Gus at the front desk who were just so kind, helpful and courteous. They helped us feel welcome and at home with them. Plus even the head maintenance guy, Mike, was a true gentleman. I personally feel like the people can make any place better when they are kind and these four individuals felt more like friends than employees at a hotel.
Beautiful location, nice 2 bedroom suite but lack of follow through with issues
We stayed four nights. Loved the location, the suite, and our patio up to day four and night. The suite was great, with mini kitchen area with fridge and microwave in main bedroom, bathroom and large closet, and the 2nd bedroom was very spacious too with large closet. The patio overlooked the park and ocean, and we spent most of our room time out there when we weren't shopping or dining nearby. On Day 4, about 8pm, power went out in my bedroom. I called down to the desk, was told someone would flip the breaker. This issue was never resolved, and I told the desk when we checked out, and then told a maintenance man about it as we were walking to the car to leave. Between midnight through 2am, the new arrivals to our left we're arguing loudly and slamming drawers and their room door. We got little sleep due to the noise. We called the desk and reported the noise. There is also a huge upper deck on level 5 with an amazing view of the entire cove area. We weren't up to climbing all of the steps needed to use the pool and spa so cannot report on those. Without issues, this would be a 4.5 rating.
