We loved everything AND everyone

Reviewed 18 november, 2022

We had pretty high expectations given all the positive reviews and we were not disappointed as White exceeded all of them. The facilities, the staff and the food were all wonderful. To be sure, we had very good weather for most of our stay (well, except for that 2 a.m. arrival due to a flight delay), which for us as avid hikers can make a difference in the enjoyment of the islands. To start, the hotel is stunning, sitting just above the ocean. We loved our room right off the large terrace, close to the infinity pool, outside dining area and fire-pit sitting area. We spent pretty much every morning and evening on the terrace enjoying the sun rises/sets and also the moon rises/sets (and we were lucking to be there for a full, blood moon). The sound of the waves and endless views of the Atlantic are ever present and really make for a special experience day or night. Being outside the busy areas of Ponta Delgata, but a short drive away made for a relaxing, peaceful experience as well. As nice as the property was, the staff throughout the hotel is among the best staff of any business we have every encountered (not just hotel stays) and just made our stay that much better. The boutique nature of this hotel, with a relatively small number of rooms (10), allows the opportunity to engage with the staff at all levels (e.g., front desk, restaurant, housekeeping) and they were simply wonderful in both taking care of us and providing ideas and information throughout our trip that made everything better. We would love to mention all of them by name but there are just too many. With that said, we do have want to say a special thanks to the General Manager, João, as he clearly sets the overall tone for the entire staff, so our hat is off to him for the special team he has assembled. Also, a special shout out to Sandra, who stayed until the afore mentioned 2 a.m. arrival (3 hours after reception normally closes) to greet us with a welcome smile and quickly getting us to our room. To complete the “trifecta” is the food, which was delicious. As the restaurant staff told us, good ingredients make for good food. Well, that and a thoughtful chef and team that put together some wonderful dishes. We had to force ourselves to try different things on the menu as when you have a wonderful, savory dish, you want to just keep returning to it. The good news is there are many of those dishes on the menu. Those combined with the Pico wines made for some memorable dining experiences. Again, every single staff member in the restaurant was attentive and helpful in making recommendations and sharing information on the different things we were having, many of which were new to us. We are already planning our return to the hotel, which really says it all. Based on our experience, we highly recommend White for everything the property, staff and restaurant has to offer its guests.

The most beautiful property in Lagoa, Açores Island

Reviewed 25 october, 2022

I stayed in this beautiful hotel with my husband to explorer São Miquel Island. It is a small boutique hotel in calming area of Lagoa. We had the ocean suite that looks out south side of the island. A comfy bed, clean room and small kitchen area to make coffees and AC worked great. It’s very zen and quiet place so you can get a good rest. The reception team( Joao, Rebecca & Sandra) were so kind and attentive and always looking out for us. The kitchen & dining team were also lovely. The breakfast was b/t 9-11am and everything on the menu were delicious. They also have the infinity pool which I only used one day but really nice. It felt so good to come back to the hotel after a long hike and just chill by the pool area. On the dry night, they put out a pit fireplace by the pool which is very romantic. Can’t wait to come go back to the Açore and stay here. Thank you everyone at White villas!

Staying here is a “no brainer” … approximately 10 nicely appointed white washed clean suites that all overlook the ocean, and the best weather you’re going to find on the island. The kitchen staff is wonderful and everything is reasonably priced, the front desk can’t do enough to accommodate you … anything you wish they’ll arrange it be it restaurant reservations, a car rental, or excursions and so on. We are 100% going back, but you need at least a week to really both relax and see everything that San Miguel has to offer.

Luxurious and tranquil venue with superb service

Reviewed 17 september, 2022

Rooms superbly comfortable, and the ocean suites in particular have fabulous views. The air conditioning is superb. The small pool is lovely for a quick splash and the food is excellent, with a focus on local ingredients and wines. We particularly appreciated the fact that all meals can be served on your balcony for no extra charge. The breakfasts are both delicious and generous. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Highly recommended. We also stayed at their sister hotel, the Santa Barbara Eco Resort; both are fabulous but the White Suites have a more intimate feel whilst Santa Barbara has a little more to do. Well worth visiting both.

White gets everything right!

This is an extra special gem of a hotel. The thoughtful attention to every detail is matched by excellent service. Guests are greeted with a delicious welcome drink (we could hear the cocktail shaker as we arrived) and a lovely fruit and cheese platter brought to the room. The grounds are spacious for a small hotel, with multiple levels and spaces offering different vantage points of the spectacular ocean view. We enjoyed the fire pit for after dinner star gazing and plane spotting, and especially relished the outdoor dining area (never leaving that view!). Every item on the menu is top notch, including the made-to-order breakfasts from an à la carte menu. Many of the ingredients come from the owners' farm, so it everything is deliciously fresh. We will miss the Pico wines. We also appreciated the artisanship of the furnishings, including the ceramic bowls and pendant light fixtures, and delicate rattan chairs. In summary, this hotel is perfection and the perfect place to relax and recharge after exploring this amazing island. We highly recommend and would definitely return if we venture back to the Azores.
