Continuous Improvement pays off

Manager (at least I think he was- I am a huge fan of employees who demonstrate ownership of their place of employ. The epitome of this is when I was shown a secret shortcut from Terminal B to Terminal A at Logan by an employee who referred to it as "My airport," but I digress.) told me after several years of upping their game as an EconoLodge, Choice had upgraded the property to Quality Inn tier. Everything was clean and fresh, and it was clear they had continued to reinvest in the property.
I was a little concerned about noise, as I am a light sleeper and the rooms faced the parking lot and it was nestled between Rte 3 (nothing at all like it is down in SNH and MA, but still the main non-interstate) and of course I-93 a short distance away, but with just the right white noise from the AC Fan (Choice seems to buy ACs with Constant On features that actually are always spinning; some units say they run all the time, but start and stop, which can interrupt sleep as well as not keep that soothing background at all times), I slept well.
Breakfast had a variety of items, some of which could be microwaved in the room, which also had a fridge/freezer. Snacks included granola bars, which were nice for hiking.
Our room came with a Jacuzzi tub, and while I hate to use that much water, the Pemigewasset roaring down the other side of Rte 3 let me rationalize that at least locally there was plenty of water.
Hotel was close to all the hiking and restaurants and breweries, but not smack dab in the middle of it, and just a few hundred meters to the I-93 on-ramps, and a little further to the Lincoln terminus of the Kancamagus (not Kangamangus as I have been saying for probably 50 years, and I'm far from the only one).
As a Choice member for years I was able to get checkout an hour later than published time, but they were completely booked that night, and I didn't want to ask for more.
Typical Quality Inn Experience

This was a typical Quality Inn experience. It was nothing fancy, but a perfectly fine lodging option near Franconia Notch. The air conditioner worked great. The beds were a little hard for me, but I was still able to get a good night’s sleep. Bathroom was small, and shower would have been better with more water pressure.

The room we stayed in was beautifully redone, but seems like it wasn't cleaned. Dust all over the headboards, nightstand had something sticky all over it and don't get me started on the floor.
I'm used to dirt, I have 2 dogs, but I vacuum or sweep twice a day. They need to pay attention to things they don't think people will notice. My dogs ball dropped on floor and I had to find it, only I found dust and some sort of candy or pill. Also, my remote had some sticky unidentified smegma on it. You would think during a scamdemic, they would clean these rooms much much better.
Staff was very friendly and due to time constraints and the constant flow of people, I didn't address these concerns. Towels and bath were clean and well stocked. The area is beautiful and maybe the outdoor types don't care about clean, but I do. Nice hiking path right on property! Dogs had a blast!
Breakfast wasn't anything to write home about. I simply do not understand why they don't give a small discount for not having hot breakfast. Paying the same rates, and getting junky heat up sandwiches and sweets. No fresh fruit, no healthier options. Hint: germs get on everything ....germs don't know to go on one surface over another.
In my opinion, my money could have been better spent at one of the other many options in area.
Also, even though people aren't allowed to smoke in room, I CAN STILL SMELL IT WHEN THEY'RE RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DOOR!
Would stay here again

We were able to book a suite here, and although the room arrangement was a bit unusual it served its purpose for our one night stay. Our room was on the first floor with the ability to park right outside as the property is quite spacious. The room had been recently renovated and I expect the whole hotel was as well. We especially liked the new laminate floors. Prices were reasonable.
Breakfast was decent, and we enjoyed being able to sit in the morning under the gazebo on the grounds. Would recommend for anyone staying in this area as a jumping off point for various nearby attractions.
Good & bad parts

The good: front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating. Close to The Basin in the mountains.
The bad: we stayed in a pet-friendly room that smelled like wet dog. Turns out a previous pet had peed on the curtains.
