Great Place to Stay!

Reviewed 29 november, 2017

Our church sends groups to Guatemala several times a year and we always stay at Posada El Delfin. We have gotten to know Gus, Ira, Arnolfo, Benjamin, Anna, lots of the staff over the course of a few years and we just love visiting with everyone! We usually get in late after a long day of traveling and are always greeted by friendly faces when we arrive (and refreshing tea!). Everyone is so accommodating and the rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. On one occasion we found ants in our room and had a problem with the air conditioning unit, and the staff quickly relocated us to a different room. All of the common areas are perfect for group meetings, but our favorite spot is out on the pier (although, it's hard to get people out of the hammocks!). The breakfasts across the street in the restaurant are always delicious - I especially like the different fruit juices every morning. The hotel is in a great location - a convenient walking distance into town. We are very busy during the day and it is nice to come back and relax at a quiet, friendly place! There are delicious empinadas across the street at the little store! Be sure to visit Melbourne and Vilma (the owners) - they always take good care of our groups!

Nice, but with things to fix

Reviewed 26 november, 2017

We stayed here for 3 nights. Had some bad and good experiences. The bad (or not so good): breakfastroom with a view at the sea was stil closed, so we had to go to a restaurant across the street. With very friendly people though. Breakfast was allright. On the second day the electricity in our room (and some others) was out of order, so we had to move to a room on the first floor. We could choose out of two; the first one had no curtains on the streetside; allthough we had nothing to hide, that wasn't an option, the second one seemed to be ok allthough I don't prefer a carpet in a hotelroom. When we went to bed unfortunately the shower was dripping and it kept on going all night. We didn't sleep almost all night. And there were big ants in de bathroom. The next day we were moved to another room and compensated properly. The room was the best there was. At the pool, view at the sea. So, what to say? The hotel seems to be a bit worn out and is not cheap (Esther expensive) but has lots of potential, if the basics are right (and fixed). The manager is very kind and helped us in any way. If you are looking for a nice place to stay just (300 meters form the docks) and have some money to spend, this is the place to stay if you're willing to overlook some shortcomings.

Great location

Reviewed 13 may, 2017

Beautiful place, very quiet. The rooms are spacious and clean, and there is hot water in the shower (not obvious in Guatemala). Rooms are equipped with air conditioning and ceiling fans. The owners speak excellent English but the staff hardly speak English. The landlady is the chef, we did not have dinner, but the breakfast was excellent.

Comfortable beds, uncontrollable air conditioning

Reviewed 14 april, 2017

The accommodation is okay though the bathroom is on the small side. The air conditioning had only one temperature -cold - and one sound - very loud. Late on day two I asked the manager if breakfast was included and he reluctantly admitted it was, even though he had told us nothing about where it was or when it was or that we could have it the previous day. So we missed out on a breakfast to which we were entitled and which we had paid for. Also, though there is a pool, it looks very unhealthy and I suggest the chemical balance is all wrong.

Try the Thai

Reviewed 30 october, 2016

We have stayed here several times and always enjoy the hospitality. Our groups have always felt safe and taken well care of at Posada Delfin. Gus recently added Thai food to his his restaurant menu. It's delicious and authentic. Try the Thai!
