Dirty rooms (bed bug found) but cheaper for the area and good location

I should have read reviews from other travelers before booking my room because I was very disappointed when I got my room... First, here's what good about that hotel: My room was cheaper than most available hotels around. I must say that I booked my room only 2.5 weeks before and that better hotels in the same area were either already fully booked or very expensive. Very good location, 5 minutes from the tube, 10 minutes from Kensington gardens, Hyde Park, Harrods, etc. Several good choices of restaurants nearby. Buffet style breakfast. Not of the highest quality but very acceptable. Friendly staff present 24 hours. Convenient, as I arrived close to midnight without problem. Now, here's the (very) bad: Very small and dirty room. The sheets and the mattress were stained, the walls and the carpet dirty, the same thing in the hotel's corridors. Don't be fooled by the ground floor. I found a bed bug in my sheets! The hotel being full, they changed my room only the next day. They were supposed to refund me one night as compensation, but after 10 days I still haven't received anything. The manager tried to convince me that the bed bug came from another traveller since they spay all rooms every months, but I'm not convinced at all when I look at the hotel state. Got two different single rooms. Both mattresses were old and uncomfortable and I had very basic sheets. By chance, it was warm at the end of October, otherwise available sheets wouldn't have been enough to keep me warm for the night. Very small room and there was no place to put the suitcase. This one was on the floor near the bed and was blocking the opening of the bathroom door. Ridiculous water pressure on the 3rd floor. Very low price-performance ratio.

Lovely little place, and a very short walk from Gloucester Rd tube station, making it an ideal location to get around. We were greeted by very friendly staff and the check in was quick. Our room was basic but very clean and spacious. Food is available but we decided to eat out, we did however have breakfast which was plentiful and not expensive. The hotel has a blue plaque with an extremely interesting story behind it. The hotel is just off Cromwell Rd and is only a 15 minute walk away from the British National Museum. We asked ourselves 'would we return'? The answer is a definite yes.

Tiny room, you cant even walk in it, no space for luggage, no mirror, no pressure in water, tiny bathroom.. we booked a standard double, but the bed was not a double..the towels were dirty and when I informed the receptionist, she told me to take them back to my room and wait for the cleaners. Doors dont lock. Rude staff. Generaly the worst hotel I ve ever lived.

Booked this budget hotel purely to be close to friends who already had a hotel booked in the area - and we were attending an event with them so needed to be close. When I say budget we are still talking nearly £200 per night - so we were thinking Premier Inn standard.( premier Inn by London eye actually cheaper than this place) What we found was a joke. To cut a long story short - their marketing pictures show our room with a single bed in it We shared a small double bed in that room with no bedside table or room around the bed - it was shoved up against a wall so my husband couldn’t get out of bed unless he climbed over me - but apparently this is a standard double?? Now I’m home and have had time to check I feel this hotel is leading guests on by marketing the room the way they have - we booked a standard double - we were given their single room with a small double bed …. Greedy Carpet was covered all over with black marks Vertical blinds were shabby, no curtains so light streamed in Not a thing on the wall for decor but the screws, marks still there where something had been No mirror in room- had to plug into nearest plug and stretch into bathroom which meant husband couldn’t have a shower whilst I tried to get ready - totally impractical Tiny hanging space - not deep enough for husbands shirts- 4 scrappy hangers We never planned to do anything other than sleep there and shower and go as we had a busy weekend but….. could not get out of there fast enough I did ask if the room was standard - got a half hearted yes - didn’t have time nor will to argue but I was angry so did not have breakfast in hotel and just got away asap I feel we have been duped by this establishment
Avoid basement rooms

I booked this hotel even after reading awful reviews, wanting to keep an open mind. When I was shown our room in the basement I was really shocked at the size, it being so small it was difficult to walk in there to the window, and the worst thing was the duvet was stained with what looked like poo/urine on it. I asked for another room, explaining the 2 issues with it, the gentleman seemed completely unfazed/or did not understand English, I am not sure or he is used to complaints, and he said there were no other rooms and they were all the same size anyway? I am not sure this is accurate. Anyway I was firm and he went to speak to another member of staff who was very helpful, I showed her the duvet, although she did not appear shocked or surprised. We had the room next door instead (still in the basement though) which was a little bigger. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom really small, sink partially blocked and very difficult to get the water the right temperature in the shower, the extractor fan not working so really unpleasant to be in the bathroom, tiles cracked and overall the room was very dirty. The stairs to the basement are uneven some steep, some not so steep, and the door at the top is so dirty with finger marks most of the paintwork is black. Also I noted lots of plug in air fresheners in the basement which I believe is to mask the unpleasant mold/dirty smell accumulated over time. I almost booked another hotel room for the next night, however breakfast was really good, lots to choose from and knowing we would not be there all day, decided to put up with one more night. I do feel for the staff there, they appear to be almost dejected looking, and it must be hard trying to keep things going with such a run down, dirty hotel in an exquisite area. The photos are nothing like what it is like inside. While I was in the dining area playing cards I heard other guests complaining about the shower and water temperature. I think they were offered a refund, from a lovely young female staff member. I truly believe it could do with Health &Safety going in there or the hotel inspector to put things right. Whoever owns it needs to take a step back and make a decision about moving forward with the place, either selling it to someone who will make it lovely again or close it down for refurbishment. It is not good working conditions at all and I do wonder what "behind the scenes" are like, such as the kitchen and staff rooms because if the owner is ok to let customers sleep there in such appalling conditions (I paid 256 for 2 nights) are they really looking after the staff? I have always given the hotel room cleaner a tip throughout my life when staying away- however this is the first time I have not done so.
