Don’t use as a hotel
Reviewed 19 September, 2021
Hotel has normal rooms and you’d be forgiven when booking through hotels.com that these would be acceptable hotel room standard. Instead, they are just rooms as part of a grubby and smelly hostel that just happen to have a private bathroom. Would avoid unless you are solely looking for a hostel rather than a hotel. Staff were rude on check in.
A nice hostel close to Kings Cross and the British Museum

Large yet discreet hostel located in a quiet neighborhood just a 10 min walk of Kings Cross Station. I stayed over the Bank Holiday weekend since since it was a great value compared to the ridiculously high prices for a hotel. I opted to stay in a private room which was quite comfortable considering it had a bunkbed. The hostel is pretty well hidden with little in the way of signage so just be aware that the entrance is off Travistock Pl and through a covered drive/ally that opens into a courtyard.
The British Museum is a 10 min walk from the hostel. Waterstones Bookstore only 8 min walk as you turn right out of the hostel onto Travistock Pl. Along the way you pass a beautiful park at Gordons Square. There's a great fish and chip restaurant called North Sea just around the corner on Leigh Street.
No communal lounge, cramped room, few showers, poor service, much better places to stay in London. Very poor.

Having stayed at hundreds of hostels, it's not often that I definitely would NOT return to one. This is one of those. The communal lounge/bar is closed until 5.30pm, which means there is NOWHERE to "hang out" other than lying in bed in your own, small, cramped room. I've NEVER stayed in a hostel where there isn't a communal lounge to relax in - whether you just want to rest after a few hours wandering around, gather your thoughts, check the internet quickly, or just chat to other people. You also can't bring in your own food.
The room was small and CRAMPED. I mean, there is literally 60cm between bunk beds, so 2 people can't pass each other at the same time.
I was on the second floor, and had to ask at reception where the nearest shower was, ( there isn't one, apparently, so I had to go to the 3rd floor and use one of the 4 showers there). As for the showers, there is only a hook outside the door to hang clothes, which means anyone can take it or go through your pockets, and there isn't a private area to dry off - so you have to stand in a puddle and try put dry clothes on!
The staff were ok, but poorly trained. They didn't pass on information that's useful to know on arrival, and didn't seem to know the area when asked about nearby bars and restaurants.
Lastly, at checkout, if you want to store your rucksack for a couple of hours, they charge £5!!! Most places are free in a secure storeroom or you can use your own lock.
There are a LOT BETTER other places to stay in London, I'd go there instead. Very poor.
