Amazing quiet place

What a beautiful place! This place has been decorated in a wonderful style, with attention to the smallest detail. We felt so well there. Beautiful room, incredibly comfortable bed, so nice view from the window, spotless cleanliness. There is an incredible silence - we slept there very well! What makes the place even more special is the very nice staff :) We can't wait to return! P.S. The old style elevator in this building is brilliant! Close to the Atocha station, markets and city center.
Best room of the 15 hotels used during our 5 weeks in Europe

We were just looking for a room, no breakfast or services required
Only a good bed, a clean room, a shower that works, a window, an elevator to help with our luggage
We got all that and more
We arrived early and the cleaning lady had already cleaned the room and let us in... a very effective person that looks to be running all that by herself for the owner... and with a smile
It was the cleanest room we had, the largest, with two windows... the corner room with one gigantic window looking on Calle Santa Isabel, the other gigantic window looking on Calle Eugenio, both windows with shutters to control the sun/light
Value for money Hostel !

i spent only one night in this hostal , it was good experience , to stay in a very nice hostal , in a very nice building with historical elevator :) , in perfect location , with good value for money , and good quality as well ( rooms & bathroom ) , very similar to basic accor hotels ( Ibis Budget ) , few minutes walk to Madrid Train station , and north to most of Madrid attractions , the only negative point is that the Wifi doesn't cover all rooms , so i was obliged to walk to reception to work on Wifi
Perfect hostel - perfetto ostello

Cute and clean hostel in the city center for a very cheap price. I would recommend it for all. Nice room and clean bathroom. Polite owners. It is hard to find anything wrong with this place.
Fantastico ostello nel centro di Madrid. Consigliatissimo per pulizia, posizione e gentilezza del personale.
Close to Everything: Riots, Trains, Gardens, Plazas, and Good Food

3.5 stars for a hotel that is hard to get into, but once in, will please you with very clean accommodations and a great location relative to key Madrid sites and activities, including what seem to be frequent protests, riots, and sundry (pun intended) Plaza del Sol activities.
As others have noted, the system for entering the Hostal before you have a key is haphazard. We rang the front bell at street-side extensively with no response, until another tenant in the building happened to step outside. Then, same problem at the door to the Hostal itself on the fourth floor. Hmmm. At least the super-cute old-fashioned lift helped us appreciate the finer side of Spanish service.
Once into the quite small room, we were delighted with how clean and up to standard the accommodations were. While the bathroom is hardly large enough to contain the essentials, it was clean ... and contained the essentials. Who can complain when the focus of a trip is the city, not the hotel?
Proximity to the train station, gardens, arts district, plenty of shopping and food, and of course the large plazas, were important, and Santa Isabel has all of this and more.
