Nice modern hotel with excellent rooms
Reviewed 16 September, 2021
We stayed for single nights a week apart.
We were upgraded to a suite on our first night which was very nice. Our second visit we were in our standard room but it was more than adequate. This later room was on the 10th floor and to view towards the Prado was something else.
The breakfast was good value and you could eat to excess if you wanted.
This hotel is close to the Prado and other attractions which are all within walking distance.
The staff are all friendly and tried hard to please us.
It is worth staying here.
Great experience even in summer 2021

We stayed at the NH Collection Madrid Casa Suecia for six nights in early August 2021 and loved our stay! It was our first time in Madrid and we found to our delight that the hotel is very centrally located, so we could walk to all of the major museums we wanted to see, including the Thyssen-Bornemiza museum (less than 5 min walk), the Prado Nacional (about 7 min walk only because you have to cross a busy intersection and walk all the way up to the door), the Reina Sofia (about a 10 min walk), and the Sorolla Museum (about a 20-30 min walk). In addition, the hotel is very close to beautiful El Retiro Park (about a 7 min walk) and is close to the Atocha train station (about a 7-9 min walk), which is very convenient for day trips! We were also able to walk to the Plaza Mayor, the Mercado San Miguel, and the Royal Palace. It was a great place to be based in Madrid!
In addition, our room came with breakfast in the downstairs cafe, which is beautiful - filled with light and plants. The breakfast itself is delicious as well - you get coffee however you choose, fresh squeezed orange juice, water infused with berries, and a selection of pastries and spreads to start, and then you can order eggs however you like them - we loved eggs fried "puntilla" style, but the French and Spanish omelets on offer were very good too, as was the cheese and charcuterie plates.
The hotel is next to the Circulo Belles Artes with its famous round rooftop terrace, which you can go to, but the hotel itself has a beautiful rooftop terrace with indoor and outdoor sections with sweeping views of Madrid. We found we could easily make reservations for the terrace for late-night drinks. Sadly, the Hemingway Bar was closed due to Covid, so we couldn't experience that, but we hope to be able to see it when we come back!
Lastly, I want to mention that we had some difficulty with our flights out of Madrid and ended up having to stay in Madrid for an extra 24 hours after our original reservation ended! We were worried that we wouldn't be able to find a place to stay on such short notice, but the Casa Suecia hotel was very gracious and was able to find us a room for the extra day. Their courtesy and professionalism was much appreciated, and we were able to fly out without incident the next day after a refreshing sleep and shower.
We loved our stay and would highly recommend staying at the Casa Suecia to others!
A super experience even in the time of Covid

We’ve travelled a lot and have stayed in many hotels but we’ve never been treated so well or enjoyed a hotel stay as much as we have here. Exceedingly friendly and helpful staff from the minute we arrived. They arranged Covid testing for travel home, printed results always with sincere smiles. Restaurant excellent. Rooftop bar superb. Location excellent facing a quiet street but in the centre of everything. Looking forward to returning here on her next visit to Madrid
Best hotel staff ever

Very happy with our recent stayed at madrid suecia hotel. We reserved a junior suite with terrace with breakfast. The hotel has a very popular rooftop and thankfully they gave us a room on the quiet side of the building.
The best part of the hotel is the staff, they are amazing! A shout out to Patricia, Rocio, Yolanda, Daniel and Diana at the restaurant. You guys made our stay in madrid a memorable experience.
Excellent location, service and amenities in an adapted classic hotel.

We have been to Madrid several times and undoubtedly the stay in the NH Collection Madrid Suecia resulted the most enjoyable. Service and amenities fulfill its five-star standard. However, beware the excessive cost of local phone calls that they charge at check-out. Probably we are used to American hotel standards but they may cause a bad feeling to customers and do not need that income to be profitable.
