A Beach Campground, 2.5☆s at Best

What was once an absolutely amazing property has unfortunately lost its way. Definitely the management is non-existent because everything from the beach to the lounge chairs to the food and the overall maintenance has taken a terrible turn. Its like a property that hasn't been touch or maintained in years.
What people come to the Maldives for are the amazing beaches, white sand, and crystal clear water. Unfortunately Medhufushi has none of that. There is only about 2 meters of a good sandy beach and the rest of the island beaches are covered in a meter of seaweed and overgrown trees and brush. To get to the water, you have to step in and on a meter of seaweed then onto rocks and coral. Nobody has cleaned up the beach in years, it seems like. Before you could walk around the entire island; now you can't walk 20 meters. The island and its shores are totally overgrown, blocking all sea views from most of the "beach villas." Really, really sad but mostly disappointing.
Everyone we spoke to, including several people on their honeymoon, were so disappointed. They all said how beautiful the photos were of the island online, only to find the resort is nothing like the photos online. I totally agree. A beach villa with no beach or view of the water!!! How can that be when you are on an island?!!?
When we first arrived, we were taken to the reception and before even sitting down were given a bill and demanded a credit card for the sea plane flights. What a welcome!!! We were provided a xerox copy of the hotel brochure that had all the daily activities on it. Problem was, the activities werent happening! No island hopping, and we werent even told! We weren't told when dinner was, the process, the 1 bottle of drinking water provided daily. Nothing. When we asked later, the young boy told us he just started at the resort and doesn't really know anything yet. Kind of the theme of the entire resort! And, be prepared to follow up every single day to ensure they have your correct check out day, have your boat or sea plane scheduled for the RIGHT day, and your PCR test scheduled in the right time. I was literally asked to do it several days ahead of time for their convenience, and then told they would change and alter the date to whatever date i requested!!! OMG, this is illegal!
The resort needs to be closed and brought up to at least a mediocre standard. Things don't work, old broken weathered chaise lounges, cheap superficial repairs on everything. Absolute management incompetence.
I don't like to keep speaking so negatively, but the staff are absolutely, totally untrained. They have no idea what to do, how to address an issue, or even at the bar what the advertised specials are. And, front and center in a colorful sign is the Thursday Managers Cocktail Reception. We showed up for it only to be looked at with complete confusion. I asked where the reception was located and was told they didn't have it any more because of the pandemic. But...someone physically placed the sign on the bar!!!
The reception desk is a total disaster. Nobody knows anything about anything. I had to ask 6 times about our sea plane return flight and every time they had the wrong date! There are only 20 year old kids running this place and not an adult professional anywhere to be found. Clueless about what to do. Thank goodness there were only 12 guests on the entire island resort, because they are understaffed to start with.
The postives: the boys at the pool were great. They worked hard from morning until night, ensuring everyone had what they needed, drinks, towels. Just smiling, nice guys. In the buffet restaurant Rakib was our waiter and he tried so hard and did a great job. I love anyone that tries really hard and he cares about his job. And our room steward Shaheen was excellent. Cleaned thoroughly and was so polite and kind who laid fresh flowers on our bed a few times! And the guys at the pool were always smiling and just really nice.
A few odd things, most notably a guy would approach us with a machete at our villa. All he could say was "coconut" but kind of intimidating when your wife is sitting on the lanai and a guy approaches out of the bushes with a machete. In the buffet restaurant there are signs mandating guests enter only with a mask on. Very few, if any, of the guests wore them when self serving the buffet and there was NO enforcement. All the employees were good and always wore masks at all times. Juelle, one of the chef, was really good. He tried to get his colleagues to an acceptable level and was always pleasant and kind. Perhaps the best employee on the island.
We definitely won't be returning to Medhufushi. Its about a step up from camping. What really made it special had gone away, to include all the thatched roofs which are now brown metal. Took away the tropical feel and made it a campground. If you are a honeymoon couple, you WILL be disappointed. Everyone said so. Sorry to be so blunt, but we were disappointed with almost everything. They have definitely gone on the cheap, especially in the food and staff. The management is 100% to blame because nobody knows what to do.
The food choices every night was mostly Indian food. We didn't see an Indian guest the entire time we were there.
Training. Maintenance. Upkeep. Cleanup. Do this and this resort may have a chance. Poor, poor, poor management. We can't blame the staff, because they tried with the little or no knowledge they have. 100% management incompetence. I'll be contacting my credit card and travel agency to get my money back.
Worst experience of Male trip

Pls don’t choose this resort , even its free.. we family of 10 planned with great expectations but right from the check in had to face horrible experience including food, room service and especially the front desk manager, Lynn. She doesn’t have the curtesy to listen to the issues and was very arrogant in her response.. they have one person at front desk and one person in the restaurant managing the customers most of the time . Very limited options in the buffet spread and for vegetarians it’s almost nill.. it’s far from the airport and close to 2.5 hours of speedboat ride..
lovely resort but could do better

my friend and i stayed at this resort for 6 nights and we had a great and relaxing time however this resort could do better!
first off we decided to take a speed boat to the island which took almost 3 hours although we didn't wait long at the airport as someone was there to greet us and we got the boat straight away, i assumed the boat took a while due to the rough sea however this also took over 2 hours on the return even on calm so first off the boat dose not take approx 1.45 as quoted on their website!
on arrival we were given forms to upgrade room and package, we had the semi detached beach villa on a BB package we did decide to upgrade to all inclusive however the selection off cocktails is very limited so i wouldn't recommend it if you are into cocktails. the rooms we stayed in were lovely but could do with a revamp, i had a problem with a light and reported this to reception but it never got fixed, i found mold on some of my clothes from being put in the wardrobe draws and the sunbeds were very worn outside the villa with a wheel that was broken, my friend had a problem with ants in her toilet and pest control came on the day we were checking out. although we had these few issues it did not spoil our time on the island. the staff at the resort are all very friendly and rafeque at the bar was amazing and was there each day after snorkeling with drinks and snacks for us.
food in the restaurant was great and a good variety although for my friend she found most to be too spicy even though it was labelled mild. the waiter we had was great and very attentive.
there was not much in the way of activities but we were holidaying during covid so was to be expected. rooms were kept clean everyday and i liked the outdoor shower.
we went out on the snorkeling trips every day and also the dolphin watching both of which were great and the boat crew were also amazing. as for weather being in July and rainey season we had great weather with sun and a nice breeze all week.
I really enjoyed my trip to this resort regardless of some minor issues as the staff are what makes this place!
