We stayed for 2 nights and we could not of asked for a more pleasant stay. From the minute we walked through the door and greeted by Kennedy on front desk, who was so polite and welcoming along with Nick. Room was clean and tidy and had all that was needed. Spa/pool was shut as just re-opening after COVID-19, but that certainly didn’t hinder our stay in any way. The food in the Brassiere was flavoursome and a nice choice. Chris and Victoria again were very welcoming and extremely helpful. Chris even recommended places for us to visit. A truly wonderful weekend away.
What a lovely way to celebrate the lifting of lockdown!
Came here with my partner for our first night away since lockdown has eased, and it was worth the wait. A nice, clean big room with a bath, even though it's just a standard room. We requested both dinner and breakfast in our room and both were delicious. Lovely surroundings. Will definitely be back - thank you!
I booked a two night stay at Five Lakes for myself. I wanted to indulge in some ‘me time’. I decided to treat myself to a bit of a luxury stay & some spa treatments. The booking process was easy, I booked through a third company on line. Check in was quick and friendly. I had unknowingly booked a room in the village area, which is a very short, less than 5 minute walk from reception. Had I have known I would have requested a room in the main hotel as I was travelling alone. However I did feel safe and it was quiet, after 10:30 when the other residents turned in for the night. I obviously can not comment on the quietness of the main hotel. I had dinner in the restaurant both nights, same menu each night, but adequate choice and expected on a weekday. Good food and service. Breakfast was buffet style, again lots of good quality food, continental, cereal, fruit and cooked breakfast too. Different fruit juices and milks to choose from. Also gluten free options for toast too. I was shocked to see a guest in their pyjamas at breakfast on the first morning. I would have expected a dress code and for guests to be challenged if not adhering to it. As far as the room goes, it was huge for one person, but offered the luxurious break I was after. King size bed, television with ample channels, safe in the wardrobe and tea & coffee facilities. Bathroom was also great, 4 piece suite, with separate bath and shower. Loads of hot water and underfloor heating! Shower was lovely and powerful too- nothing worse than having to run around finding the water!! I slept well both nights, heating controls in the room and lovely thick curtains blocked out the light. A lack of plug sockets near the bed, as most people charge phones overnight. There was only one plug near the bed, fine for me as travelling alone, but not so good if you were with another person. Just something to consider. There was not welcome pack either, just a little pack with a resort map, I would have gone for a walk round the grounds if I had known where to go or had a little guided route. Also some information on the bars/ restaurant and what menus they offer. Spa information and some general information on the area perhaps. Spa/ pool opening times. I spent the majority of my second day in the spa and pool. Spa staff are super friendly, accommodating & helpful. I booked my treatments before my stay directly with the spa. My only comments would be despite being told I would be offered a robe and slippers I was not, which was a shame and I ended up being in my clothes around the spa. Also there is a corridor through the spa which obviously leads to the service/ staff areas, this created some unwanted noise on occasions particularly in the relaxation lounge which was a shame. Otherwise the treatments were amazing, tailored to me specific needs and likes (eg aromatherapy considerations). The pool was lovely too, although in need of some TLC (this is happening soon according to the signs I saw). The jacuzzi was okay, not particularly bubbly or warm, and quite an effort to enter and exit due to the very thick lip around the edge. The pool is nice, the shape allows for laps, but the gradient of the slope is such that there is only a small area to actually swim in. The central ‘island’/ column is a nice touch with a seating area. Plenty of chairs/ loungers if you wish to relax pool side. The steam room, sauna and accompanying showers could do with a good clean and again a facelift (I appreciate this is being carried out). The steam room lacked some steam, but was nice to use it anyway. The showers in the changing rooms were good, powerful and hot. Nice to have hairdryers & dryers for swimwear. Complementary towel a nice touch too. All in all it was exactly what I needed a couple of nights to myself to recharge and refocus. I will be returning, and will try the main hotel rooms this time.
Not a relaxing "spa day"
My friend had arranged a suprise day out for my birthday and had booked a spa day. On the weeks before she had seen a notification on their website that the facilities were not in use due to refurbishment therefore she called up to see if they would be in use on the 16th March when we were going. They said that it would be back open by then however disapointly when we arrived although the pool was open the steam room was closed and there was no water in the jacuzzi! So we only had use of pool and sauna room. We were very disappointed by this as we feel that we should have had warnings of this especially that she went out of her way to call and double check. The second disappointment was that although the pool was open there was a baby swim group taking place. This was not what we had in mind for a relaxing spa day baring in mind I have 3 young children that my friend had kindly arranged childcare for. So we arrived when they finishing up with the baby group and was looking forward to using the pool at least but then a water aerobics class started in the centre of the pool (with a speaker with very loud music). We feel that the pool area should be designated for spa days on days where there are not groups going on in the pool. The reason we were disappointed because we felt it is very deceiving as we have public swimming pools in our local area which are more quiet and relaxing than this (also with working jacuzzis). On a positive note of the day we enjoyed our treatments as this part of the day was very relaxing. Would not recommend to others for a spa day.
Booked for 1 night relaxing stay but facilities were undergoing refurbishment
The hotel is lovely the grounds and the room was satisfactory, however when we booked it nowhere did it mention that the spa facilities were being refurbished. This was very disappointing as we booked it to relax and use the spa facilities. When we realised it was late to cancel our booking if you are looking to use the spa better check in advance to avoid disappointment.
