Wonderful Stay!!! Incredible Staff!
We stayed at the Westin Monache just when they reopened following the lockdown (June 21 - 24th). We couldn’t believe what an incredible job they did with all the COVID restrictions in place. Everyone (staff and guests) wore masks at all time, nobody shared elevators, plexiglass was installed everywhere, and easy self parking was introduced. The rooms were spotless and extremely comfortable. Housekeeping would deliver anything you needed and would leave it at the door. Alexi helped us with all our requests and she was truly welcoming in these trying times. The entire staff went above and beyond with any request or recommendations. They were so incredibly gracious. As a Marriott Titanium member they even included a complementary continental breakfast. This was also above and beyond during the Covid pandemic. We were traveling with our Australian Shepard and everyone welcomed him with kindness. Can’t wait to return in September!!
Great place for families - friendly staff, safe environment, clean property
I took the family up to Mammoth for a much needed get-a-way from 6/28/20-7/1/20. Obviously these are challenging times in the world right now. The Westin Monache had a really good balance of health & safety, while allowing us to 'escape' for a few days. The front desk staff were really friendly and helpful with fishing tips & restaurant recommendations. The housekeeping staff really hustled to bring us extra towels & bedding. A county ordinance prevented hotels in Mammoth from having jacuzzis open, but the kids were still able to have a great time in the pool thanks to the Westin team cranking the heat in the main pool. They also monitored & limited capacity which allowed us to enjoy the pool safely. Overall, we got exactly what we were looking for - a quick escape from all the craziness, while still practicing smart & safe protocols. We will definitely be back!
WOW! What a Great Experience.
Alexi! Phillip! They ROCK! Considering everything that is occurring with Covid, they welcomed my family and made us feel welcome and safe. They were professional, friendly, and shared some GREAT recommendations. The property is located in the perfect area that has amenties in walking distance or a quick drive to experience all that Mammoth has to offer. Thank you Alexi, Phillip, and the Rest of the Westin TEAM for an Awesome 1st Get Away in awhile. Can't wait to see you all again soon. Also, having a kitchenette was SUPER convenient as well.
Good And Bad
I have stayed at this property before and always enjoy the location and the comfort level of the suites. It’s great to have a kitchenette to cook a simple meal. It’s also appreciated that the hotel is pet-friendly. The pet policy needs to be clarified on the hotel website, however. It states the pet fee is $50–but at check-in the agent argumentatively insisted it would be $150 for our stay. I pointed out the discrepancy and she begrudgingly agreed to honor the terms on the website. Snippy attitude though. Also the public areas of the hotel need a good scrubbing. Every surface is dirty, splattered, scuffed, dented or grungy. Especially during the pandemic, cleaner pubic spaces would help guests feel like care was being taken to make the property sparkle. Right now it looks like a rundown Motel 6, or worse.
Mailing it in During Covid
I took my wife and two small children up last week and decided to stay here for the first two nights of our trip and then move into an AirBnB. I’ve been going to this property for almost 20 years and this is likely the last time I’m going. I totally get everyone is short staffed with Covid but other Marriott properties seemed to have figured it out when these guys can’t. Here were the issues. 1.) Trash cans in room were full when we arrived. 2.) They sent someone to empty them and the guy left a trail of popcorn kernels in the floor after emptying them. 3.) There were crackers in between the cushions of the coach. If you’re going to make a big deal about sanitizing rooms due to Covid then don’t miss details like this. 4.) No umbrellas at the pool. When you’re at 7,500 feet elevation you kinda need some protection from the sun. It doesn’t take much to bring these out. 5.) No drink service at pool 6.) No live music (used to be such a cool part of coming here; you’d think someone can play guitar from behind a piece of plexiglass; again, figure it out). 7.) No valet (recently stayed at autograph in Pismo and they had whole valet thing figured out where you take a pic of ticket and text them to bring car up and then they wipe down the wheel and door). Why can’t Westin figure it out? 8.) Only two people in elevators at a time which I totally understand but then no valet or bag person becomes problematic trying to carry your stuff up four flights of stairs when it takes 15 minutes to finally hitch a ride on the elevator. 9.) Towels felt like card board. 10.) Sheets were low quality. 11.) The building is showing its age. It desperately needs paint. It’s most evident when you’re in pool area looking under the lights on the building. You see the rust bleed under each light. 12.) I am Titanium level with Marriott and I’ve never once been upgraded here. I don’t really get the point of status if you’re not going to get anything especially when the hotel is not running anywhere near peak capacity. Honestly, it was all just too much of an effort for an experience that was mediocre. Hopefully they can use this time to work on upgrading the property and getting their act together.
