We stayed one night following a late flight and arrived at 1 am in the morning. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. We chose continental breakfast and there was a good selection available. The hotel is very close to the station and we would return again if we need accommodation in Manchester.

An over-priced hellscape

I paid for an executive room, however, there was nothing executive. A room priced at £90 a night should be in a fit state to inhabit, this was not; I never stayed the night, and the room would be valued at £45 at best had it not had major issues. The lobby of the garden hotel had a pungent smell of sweet-rot, an odor I have only known to be given off by dead animals; the stench was overpowering in the lift. The hotel also had the lingering aroma of cannabis. The carpet in the 'executive' room was heavily stained, in need of vacuuming and had black Mould around the edges at the top of the staircase; the mold alone is a health hazard. After being in this room for about 45 minutes, while I sought out alternative accommodation, my skin became blotched with a red rash and my breathing impaired. The room was sparsely furnished with dated furniture which was scratched and soiled. It was decorated with dark red paint which was reminiscent of an establishment in the red-light district. The linens on the bed had holes in them and yellow stains from the previous occupants of the room. The accommodation looked nothing like the pictures. No tea or coffee was supplied. The room also lacked internet . When I went downstairs to ask the staff to either refund me or move me to a more suitable room I was told to leave as the hotel would not accommodate me as I was lying about the state of the room, this was after providing photos to the staff at reception. I have had to involve booking and I am awaiting a refund. I almost missed my interview as a result of this incident. I have had to payout a significant amount of extra money for appropriate alternative accommodation. The staff in this establishment are extremely rude. Please ensure you scroll through the reviews of the garden hotel as this is not an isolated incident.

Disappointed

Going for a 2 night stay in Manchester we booked in the Gardens Hotel after looking at their website and reading some of the reviews. How disappointed were we???? Whilst the location was excellent, the staff in general were lovely and the breakfast very good, the room and hotel were not. The hotel, or at least the part we stayed in was tired, grubby and in desperate need of refurb. There was tape on the floor to cover the worn, loose patches of carpet and plaster falling off the walls in part. Certainly not up to the standards shown in their website The room was spacious, bedding and bathroom clean but once again, in desperate need of a refurb and deep clean. The bed base was broken and when I was in the bed struggled not to keep rolling out. The mattress very lumpy, dipped in the middle and was extremely uncomfortable The rail in the wardrobe broke when i hung our clothes up. When i notified the hotel we were vidited immediately by a member of staff who offered us a different room whilst this was being fixed. Chose not to move as we were only there for 2 nighst. It was fixed the following day, but was still lose so did not use. However, when i went to get the iron from the shelf in the wardrobe the following day, i scratched my fingers on the ends of the screws that had come right through the shelf when the rail was being secured. The day of checkout, we had 2 members of staff enter our room at 7:30ish and 8:30 ish, whilst we were getting ready to go to breakfast as they had been advised that we had checked out the day before. I would not stay at this hotel again, due to the general state of disrepair, however, have to say that in general the staff were very good and made the best with what they had to work with. Cairn Group needs to look at spending some money on refurbing this place
