Weekend Spa Retreat

Went to this hotel 2 yrs ago and booked again as it was so good. This time round it was clear that there was not enough staff and the staff on duty were not trained properly and gave the impression that they did not want to be there. The facilities are good and the room comfortable, clean and relaxing.

On arriving at the crown plaza we were very pleased with the room we had, it was spacious, clean and modern.
Lovely bath and separate shower cubicle, a fridge in the room along with a bottle opener and ice bucket.
We went to have a drink and some lunch at the bar on sitting and waiting to be served we waited a long time, I walked to the bar and said we have been waiting a very long time to place a drink and food order, the lady who was on shift was working alone and could not keep up with the demand of customers by herself.
I had placed an order and we waited……. 50 minutes later no drinks had arrived, we were amongst some very unhappy customers, some complaining about the quality of food and others being that they were waiting along time to be served.
We decided to tell them to cancel our food order and drink order and we wanted to see a manager after 30 mins he finally showed but to be told he was just the food and beverage manager, he noted our issues and went to the kitchen on his return he said he will give us a drink and some chips and sweet potato fries to see us through till our evening meal and will put a note on our room account to see the manager in the morning!!, (we still had to chase our drinks up as the chips arrived but not drinks) we had waisted 2 hours of our day that was ment to be a birthday night away for my husband, trouble free and to just relax but this was not what we were receiving.
On arrival to the restaurant we were both very hungry only eating chips all day.
We opted to sit in the conservatory but soon requested lights were put on as it was so dark we couldn’t see the menu let alone what we were eating, we were informed they couldn’t do this so we moved inside.
The menu consisted of 4 choices per course and that was it unless u like Indian food and that again had 4 dish choices, not enough choice in our opinion (glad we only stayed one night)
We chose the soup to start tasted just like a power with hot water added!, venison for main and changed the mash for chips and cabbage for salad,
When it arrived we were very dissatisfied two very small slices of venison inch wide by 2 inches long, £25 for the main meal we were not happy at all, not worth £25 at all!!
The pudding was the best tasting thing We had eaten all day besides the pudding our diet consisted of chips!! We ended up ordering a pizza via Uber eats that my husband waited outside for an hour to be delivered we would have had room service that consisted of a hell of a lot more choice and variety than the main restaurants menu but due to a function being held they had closed room service untill the function had dispersed! Considering we are full paying guests seemed like the big function prioritised the guests!!
The staff were nice but very blunt and didn’t explain things to us ie that room service was closed till 12am due to the situation we just got told no no room service but it wasn't untill my husband stated online it states room service available, then we got it explained to us why they had closed it.
On checking out we said we wanted to speak to the manager as promised on check out but again he was not available and we dealt with a deputy manager who advised us that if we noted our concerns via here the managers wife will be in contact with us in regards to our awful experience with the food and beverage side of the hotel. In great hope that this is looked upon and
action is taken in regards to our experience that should have been a nice night away!!, the first night I had off of work in 10 months being a carer I so needed it! Look forward to your report and this issue to be resolved.
Looks like a ‘holidays from hell’ destination from the outside

The hotel has recently undergone extensive renovation inside and the room was new and modern and close to what I would expect for the price paid, apart from perhaps the bathroom where it looked like a mix of old and new with a grotty sink, grout round the shower and a cheap plastic toilet seat.
The restaurant and bar have benefitted from the facelift too and were perfectly nice.
It was a shame though that I couldn’t get past the first impression from the outside when we arrived. Clearly nothing has been spent here. It was like driving into a run down holiday resort that time forgot. Do not believe the website photos, it looks nothing like it. The water feature at the front doesn’t work and is rusty. The grounds are covered in weeds.
The swimming pool and changing rooms are tired and were grotty.
It seems like there was a budget for the renovation and cuts have been made to save money elsewhere post covid. Plastic mugs and the cheapest plastic disposable cups in the room for over £200 a night?!?!
Breakfast was mediocre. Ok if you are a fan of a full English or sugary cereal but no healthy oats, seeds, dried fruit etc. Some continental meats and cheeses but bog standard sliced white or brown bread, no crusty baguettes etc. Not even a plain croissant, just sugary filled mini options.
All in all very disappointed at what I hoped was going to be a touch of luxury in upmarket Marlow.

Stayed here for one night. Really impressed with standard room. Seemed like a superior one. The most comfortable super king bed. Excellent shower. The design of the room was so clever and so stylish. The leisure facilities were excellent. The receptionist manning the desk there, not so helpful. The breakfast not so good. Plenty of choice but food either over or under cooked. Would stay again.
DO NOT WORK HERE !

Finally I can tell you what i think of the place to work here because its a joke! i don't remember one time when I didn't go home in tears because of staff or management. We are always constantly under staff management did not seem to care and that's the the main reason for all the complaints i been working here for almost 3 months and I never had such bad experience with management they were very abusive and unkind and harrass certain individuals including me. I really don't advice anyone to work here to be treated like crap everyday most of the time i felt isolated and was not aloud to talk go any staff. The owner of the place had in for me since day 1 he show me he didn't like me at all and said he had no interest in me being there at all i felt singled out i felt this was very discriminating behaviour. I considered myself to be a hard worker and always went out my way to do extra and they treat me like this their loss.
So I think I answered your question to why they have no staff
