I just celebrated my birthday this weekend at the Westin (National Harbor). It was a perfect stay, but Ms. Ikea at the Front Desk treated us like royalty. I recommend this property to all and ask for Ikea.

Part of the service staff need better customer awareness training, seems they are always very busy - with themselves. Rooms are not thoroughly cleaned. Renovation needed, looks all very old-fashioned. Restaurant staff tries hard but facility needs complete refurbishment. Location and water view is great.

First impressions start at the entrance gate of any institution or business! Making lasting impressions in a short exchange is rare! It is so satisfying and my honor to make a very public mention of someone, when they have added to their professionalism, an understanding ear in genuinely relating to a customer! This shout out goes to Ikea who was working in AM at the front desk check in, on 08/16/2022!
Nice hotel but poor night's sleep

The Westin at National Harbor is a beautiful hotel with a very polite and attentive staff. I have just two negative comments. First, although the website promises an indoor pool, it is closed and has been closed for at least several months, so the website is misleading, to say the least. Second, the bedding was very uncomfortable. The hotel provided an arctic-class comforter rather than a summer-weight blanket even though the temperature outside was nearly 100 degrees. When we stay at a hotel that is far from the North Poe, I would expect bed coverings that are consistent with the season. Even lowering the temperature in the room to 68 degrees (what an energy waste!) did not make up for the inappropriately heavy comforter that was supplied, rather than a summer blanket. To say the least, I did not get a good night's sleep, which seems to me the main thing you want from a hotel.

We typically stay at the Gaylord when we take trips into the DC, National Harbor area, but wanted to try something different this year. We will not be returning to the Westin. We had breakfast twice in the hotel. On Saturday we were sat right away, which was nice even though the kitchen service was a little slow. We returned Sunday for breakfast again at the same time, but was told there was a 30 minute wait because they were full. My family and I looked at each other in disbelief because it was clearly not full and there were plenty of empty tables. We chose to valet our car in hopes that made things easier. Well when we provided the ticket after we checked out the gentlemen pulled multiple cars at once and could not remember which car/ticket belonged to us. We were also not made aware that you had to request room cleanings. We are ok with not having daily room cleanings I understand that everyone is struggling with staffing, but we were not made aware of any of this while checking in. Communication is always key if you ask me and then we know what to expect. We will not be returning to this hotel when our experiences at other local hotels have been better.
