Magical Stay

Reviewed 21 november, 2022

This is a charming conversion of an old building near the Zocalo. The room was perfect and the roof top restaurant (including a pool and jacuzzi) added to the atmosphere. Around the Zocalo is very safe due to security. Last thing to say was that the staff were so welcoming and utterly helpful in all ways. Will come back.

The star of our Mexico City trip

This hotel is a work of art: the historic building, gorgeous stairways, stunningly artistic design, and culinary delights. The premium room was so big, I got lost trying to find the bathroom in the middle of the night 😂 but we loved the high ceilings, the black drapes, the foyer, the large windows. The bed was super comfortable and the shower had perfect pressure. The staff was absolutely amazing, and the hotel is centrally located in walking distance to so much that you’ll want to explore on a first visit to CDMX. The hotel also arranged a wonderful driver and nice car to and from the airport that ran seamlessly. We highly recommend staying here and also checking out the rooftop restaurants. Lovely stay.

Extremely chic!

Reviewed 14 november, 2022

We stayed at the Umbral in November. The weather was gorgeous. The hotel is extremely chic- with great design detail. It was a bit dark though, and could have used better lighting. The bed was fine, but there was quite a lot of street noise. (Our room faced the street)

Meh

Reviewed 2 november, 2022

Looks ok, modern; but very dark and very cold. My room had frosted glass so it’s as if there is no window. There was zero place supplied to put luggage. Do I have to put my filthy suitcase on the bed? There is a long bench with pillows on it iso a couch or anything comfortable. It is a Hilton but doesn’t provide digital key (the very BEST invention in the history of hotels bc who wants to queue or TALK to anyone when tired fro traveling?)and iso admitting it, they gaslight you into thinking it is temporarily broken but will work upon arrival. Rooms are freezing! It’s due to tile floors and darkness and no sunlight coming in windows. Hotel does not offer the Hilton option of taking a voucher in lieu of lounge (not provided) or in lieu of breakfast. Bartender thinks it is appropriate to play his own music on his phone to clash with overhead music. Tacky!!! Noisy!!!!

Great location

Great location! This hotel is near everything in Centro and a great jumping off point for other neighborhoods. The “moodiness” of the ambiance that others didn’t like didn’t bother our group one bit. It was nice to not have everything over lit all the time! The rooftop bar was also a great amenity and the staff was very friendly. Rooms were nice and clean. We didn’t have noise issues (we were in a interior courtyard room that wasn’t on the main corridor), but my friends in a street side suite did say there was traffic noise inside the room. The main elevator is also up a few stairs, so keep that in mind as well. My biggest complaint was the doors - the double door entry into the rooms and into the bathrooms were quite the pain, as each side was quite narrow, even for skinny people. The second leaf only opened from the inside, so you had to sidestep inside one half of the set to get in the room or bathroom. Neither room’s bathroom door shut quite right either. Not a deal breaker by any means, but a little bit of a pain.
