Reasonable food and service. Gouging ?on rooms and wine.

We had a group event at the St Pierre. Our food ordered from the bar on the first evening was tasty and reasonable value. We had a group dinner the second evening and the food was good and service was good.
Two areas for observation. Our block booking of rooms for the event was cancelled by the hotel several weeks prior to the event. I noted nearer the time of the function that the hotel was then advertising available rooms on booking sites at a much higher rate. This seemed to be cynical move to capitalize on the Uk holiday surge. Luckily we had arranged alternate accommodation by that point.
The wine list - there were two options for bubbly. Champagne at £65 or Prosecco for £33. Yes £33.
There was no wine at all under £25. Even for a normal business markup this seemed excessive.

As Marriott Bonvoy members we were looking forward to our short stay here. The drive through the golf course up to the 'house' is impressive. The main hotel area is an ancient Manor house. Our room was in the Lakeside village and we parked up right outside. It was a small house called Tintern. One of a few comprising of three standards hotel rooms. Two on the ground floor and one upstairs. It was very dirty. We were carrying wipes and went right through the place. It was historic dirt too. A few have passed through with probably just a vacuum cleaning. All surfaces were dusty and stained and don't look inside the electric meter cupboard! Breakfast was £25 each and not worth it. The cups and cutlery were disgusting. It took two complaints to get clean stuff. There is a garden centre outside offering breakfast at £3.99. I'd go there if I went back. But I won't be. Caters strictly for the golfing community.
Very enjoyable stay

Loved the hotel. Had a lovely one bedroom courtyard suite. Comfortable and spacious. Possibly a little dated and lacking some facilities such as AC, but very acceptable. All the staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant popular and well managed. Excellent location with walks around the golf courses.
Very Disappointing - Not What I expect from a Marriott Hotel!

Check-in was pleasant and to a Marriott standard and I was pleasingly upgraded to a lake view room located in a separate area of the grounds due to my Marriott Elite Status. However, the room was drab and dated with no air conditioning therefore very warm. It overlooked the lake from a smallish window, which was a pleasant outlook and the room was ample in size with storage, TV, tea & coffee making facilities and a compact bathroom. The rest of our experience was fairly dismal I’m afraid and certainly not what I have come to expect from a Marriott Group Hotel! Soiled plates, glasses and cutlery left outside rooms in our lobby area, were not removed during our stay (Poor housekeeping). There is a very small lounge area with a TV showing sports, which is fine and large alfresco style terrace, although both were packed with golfers (No idea how they cope on rainy days when all guests have to sit inside!). The staff in the bar area were under pressure serving drinks and taking meal orders to the extent the queue went outside onto the terrace. I was advised that there is no other bar, or lounge facility for guests not playing golf, who simply want to enjoy a quite drink! We made a table reservation for dinner in the restaurant two weeks ahead of our arrival, however, we were shown to a table in the bar area, close to a function room where a golf society were celebrating their prize winning, very loudly with some bad language! But worst of all was the poor quality of the service and the food, this hotel simply cannot cook steaks, we both ordered premium steaks (Rib Eye & Fillet) our main meal arrived while we were still finishing our starter, both steaks were cold (not even lukewarm, but cold to touch!), we eventually found someone to complain to and two more steaks were prepared, one was chewy and the rib-eye was flat and listless with no texture at all - Dreadful food! The restaurant service staff were clearly inexperienced, poorly trained and under pressure serving several large golf society groups. In summary: I accept that this is a Golf & Spa hotel, which is probably an ideal hotel for Golfers, but it’s certainly not for those guests wishing to have a relaxing, gourmet Marriott hotel experience – Won’t be staying here again!

The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and efficient. However the food was average at best. We were in a party of 48 and pre ordered our food for 2 evening meals. The food was average at best and the service was very slow. No apologies offered for inedible and late arriving food.
