Check In with. StacyAnn

I just wanted to mention how impress I was with StacyAnn who checked me in today at the Half moon resort. She was extremely friendly but she was helpful and willing to help me with knowledge not just about hotel but with local knowledge about Montgomery Bay. My wife and I wanted to know about some shopping areas and some restaurants that I had research at home with Google. She made me feel very comfortable as I asked her questions about areas in Montgomery Bay. Based on her answers, she set me on the correct path path for my private excursions with my wife on my first full day tomorrow. My discussion with her led me to a conversion with the bellman, which led me to a discussion with him, which led me to a taxi driver, for my excursion. I hope if you come to visit Half Moon, that she will be the person that introduces you to Half Moon and Montgomery Bay.
Wonderful Experience, Some tweaking needed

I will preface this by saying my expectations for service among other things were high. The property, and the quality of detail of groundskeeping of the 400 acres is impeccable and deserving of more than just 5 stars. My family and I stayed dispersed among the villas and accommodations to move around the compound were easy through use of the golf carts as well as the exceptionally cute bicycles for adults and children alike. The issues we encountered throughout our stay was not property or food related, it all boiled down to rude and disrespectful service by a few staff. If it weren’t for a few rude, inattentive, and disrespectful staff, service would be rated 4. The mornings/afternoons/evenings we dined at Eclipse and Hayward were met with very slow service, as well as inattentive staff. The times we dined were not overtly busy. There weren’t an abundance of other guests dining during the times so we never expected long wait times by staff to take orders, much less the time in which it took for appetizers and full meals to arrive. Dining for breakfast in Hayward was a mix between getting seated quickly with a beautiful view, but the waiter left us unattended without follow up on orders for 30-40 min after our arrival. He made a point to apologize due to his forgetfulness. In regards to downright rude and disrespectful staff members…. We are returning to our home country, many of us born and raised in Jamaica, but upon requesting any services throughout our stay, when many of us were inconvenienced, we were not or shown the respect as other guests on the property, there was certainly a lack in basic respect. A lot of us felt that some staff members resented our presence at the hotel as fellow Jamaicans. A group of friends stayed in one villa, while another set of family/friends stayed in others. One group detailed amongst ourselves that they felt they were imposing on the house of the assigned butler/maid. They felt as well that their particular butler spoke to them and addressed them as children who needed scolding. No one needs this type of disrespected when staying anywhere, not just Half Moon. Another example of rude/disrespectful service… in our Villa, there was at least 6 or 7 of us who returned to our Villa at 9:30pm one night to find that our key card, none of our key cards, were able to open the front door. I politely called guest services and explained the situation and they in turn responded quickly by sending a staff member with new cards to assist. When he arrived, he did not greet us, he didn’t apologize for the inconvenience. He made the assumption that we were all lying about the key cards. He briskly walked into the Villa, and attempted to open the various room doors with the keys we initially had. He noted they did not work and instead of politely asking each of us to give him the non-working cards, he rudely dictated in patois “gimme the cards dem” and walked out without another word. It is atrocious for anyone, paying guests, to be treated with rude and disrespectful behavior from staff of such a highly sought after hotel. These rude staff members are weeds that need to be plucked from the beautiful garden of Half Moon. One thing worth noting as well is that the Villas could use some attention in terms of an upgrade in the bathrooms/bedrooms.
Overrated and overpriced

Very overpriced and overrated. Will not come back. The main highlight was eating at Del Mare - exceptional. Sugar Mill was good but overpriced - about $1000 for six people. There are no reasonably priced food options and the food is not good quality. There is not enough staff during off season. We couldn’t find anyone to give us golf carts, and there is too much noise from yard work and leaf blowers. Staff should offer to put up umbrellas by the beach. They could improve basic things like food at the pool side restaurant - horrendous and $$$ - and even just have self serve coffee all day rather than end it at 9am. It doesn’t compare to a Ritz or another top tier hotel chain. For the price, it’s really not worth it.
Half Moon at Rose Hall

From the moment we checked in, this was a first class experience. Nothing was left to chance, the resort confirmed all special requests, and accommodated the fully. In room dining was absolutely perfect, as was the food & service at all of the restaurants we visited on premises. Special dietary requests were completely fulfilled. The entire staff was friendly & charming. Looking forward to our return trip in the future!
Nice to be back home

We have been visiting Half Moon on a regular basis since 2001 although due to lockdown etc this was our first return visit for three years. In the interim the Eclipse development has been completed and is now fully functioning although we stayed in an upgraded Hibiscus suite nearer to the Founders Cove. Perhaps we are creatures of habit but we still prefer this location and in particular the Cedar Bar with the inimitable Caswell ! We also enjoyed the buffet breakfasts at the Seagrape which we preferred to the a la carte offering at Haywards. It was good to meet up with old friends including Everette, Winston and Philip at the Seagrape,Joy and Pauline at the new Northe Point location which is good for lunch or a more informal evening snack.. Of the new outlets Delmare the Italian restaurant is excellent and Claudio has created an interesting non traditional menu including a risotto whose ingredients are changed daily. the Sugar Mill was as good as ever and it's setting remains pretty special . Special mention to Sophia who looked after my wife at the spa and Norman my long suffering caddy at the golf course. Despite what has clearly been a difficult couple of years for the hospitality business we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome and look forward to returning again next year. Thank you Half Moon for a superb break. Graham & Louise Hartley.
