A very well presented former coaching in this lovely and interesting village. (Try an evening walk up to the Castle or a visit to the remarkable Bunner's ironmongers. Eat your heart out B&Q! )
The hotel is very nice and even has a small, heated indoor pool, which we used. We had a nice, well furnished room.
Excellent cooked breakfasts and we ate in the dining room every night. Excellent food. Good local beer by Monty's Brewery. Comfortable and uncrowded sitting room. The dining room also never felt "Covid-crowded."

The positive - the location and entrance foyer of the hotel.
It’s the service we received that was really bad during our evening meal. My Mum and I were ignored for our entire meal pretty much. We could see the other two tables being waited on. The meal was lovely but had to wait about an hour to place an order for our puddings. We were given the sweets menu and 40 minutes later I had to go to the bar to ask would anyone be taking our order. Last orders was called at 10.50pm, and everyone was asked did they want a last drink, and at 11.20pm two men walked in from outside and were served alcohol at the bar. All evening people had to go to the bar for drinks, even though it’s meant to be table service only. My Mum questioned why these two men were served alcohol if the bar was shut and the reply was ‘they work here and if you wanted drinks you should have been quick and sharp’! My mum said ‘we’ve been trying to be quick and sharp all evening but we’ve been completely ignored’. Furthermore, when the lady was behind the bar she rarely had her mask on and was under her chin the majority of the time. It was just awful. We sat down for our evening meal at 6.30pm, and left at 11.30pm and in that time had 4 drinks. Those were only ordered when someone came to clear our plates or when someone came to get the sweet menu to take to another table. We felt a complete inconvenience all evening. Upon leaving I spoke to the lady at reception and discussed all of these issues and she was polite and took my email address. I’ve been waiting since 9am for the email but haven’t received anything. On another note, it was a warm evening so we needed to use the fan in the bedroom. Not PAT tested since 2017, and the hairdryer I spotted in the drawer was the same.
The breakfast was good and the service during breakfast was quick and polite - pre ordered the night before. They did get one small error with the breakfast order but that was fine.

Food was lovely, service was amazing. My favourite place to eat in and around Montgomery.
Always Great beers. Generally Recommend the Monty or the Salopian
I had the Slow cooked beef brisket which was amazing, served with roasted root veg.

Waited for almost half an hour after being seated by the staff to taking our drinks order. We had a lunch each which in fairness my wife’s sandwich was okay. I had the pate and to be honest was really disappointed. Rubbish bread and not much of it and the pate was not set. Not in a habit of writing negative reviews but was really disappointing as they were not busy at the time.

We were very happy with our stay at the Dragon. Both rooms were clean and well decorated as was the hotel throughout, you have obviously been busy during lockdown. The hotel is all the better for it. Well done
We had dinner in the bar, food was great, loved the braised beef. Pudds were not that great but were acceptable. Service was just right, not too over the top. In fact all staff were courteous, pleasant and seemed happy in their work
I liked the Dragon before, great location, lovely building in fantastic countryside and its even better now.
I’ll be back
