Clean and safe during covid-19
My 2 night stay was comfortable. I appreciated the no contact check in. No contact also means no housekeeping, no complimentary bottles of water and no breakfast... however I was happy to forego those amenities to feel safe. Free parking out front is a plus. Be sure to run the water around 10 minutes for it to get hot.
Excellent, no frills place!
The thing to keep in mind about this hotel is that it's a European-style pension. Older building, continental style breakfast, minimal frills. Don't expect a whole lot of amenities. The rooms are older and the building (a converted post office) does have a bit of an "old house" smell. I found no issues such as the ones in the comments below (propped open fire doors, bathtub problems). The breakfast is simple; bread, rolls, and muffins with butter, jam, or peanut butter. The coffee was excellent! I found the people at the desk to be extremely friendly and helpful. The location is not super-convenient. It helps to know your way around Montreal a little bit if you're staying here. It's near a bus stop, but buses don't run frequently in Montreal (they do post a schedule in the lobby, which helps). You'll be better off with the metro, which is a straight fifteen minute walk. Once you're on the metro, you're likely no more than 20 minutes from anywhere you'll want to go. The neighborhood is fine. It's an up-and-coming neighborhood with some industry, some old houses, some pricy renovated condos, and plenty of small parks. Like most of Montreal, it's completely safe at any hour. There isn't a whole lot to do close by. Lots of good restaurants and cafes about a mile to the north and east. Otherwise, you'll need to get an Uber or take the metro (or grab a Bixi bike in the spring or summer).

We ended up leaving early despite what we thought should have been a good place. We liked that it was just outside of the city. We enjoy neighborhoods and exploring the non tourist side of life. We arrived an hour early and our room was ready. The office has a weird feel to it. There's a mix of decor that makes it feel patched together. The lobby ceiling was missing panels and had damage. The exposed insulation and wood framing really made it feel like a hostel. It did have a smell of bleach in the office, hallways and lobby. We were on an upper floor and the elevator made us think it was going to crash at any point. It got stuck on opening once. The room was small but that was fine. The walls were damaged, the picture frame was shattered, there was dirt ingrained on the walls. Black fingerprints all over the not so white walls. The floors were not done well as the edges had a gap that you could lose an earring down. The mattres was okay. I think it was getting tired. The walls were missing plaster and deeply scared. The ac/fan didn't work so we grabbed a fan sitting in the hallway. The windows were not soundless. Lost of damage near the window. No extra blankets. They didn't clean our room the first night. The second night, they didn't give us any towels. When we arrived, we had one floor towel and one bath towel. We couldn't find anyone to get more. The bathroom looked updated but they were super sloppy in their tile work. The bathroom fan was quite loud. The rooms above and around were paper thin. There are really good restaurants about a 3 minute drive. Parking on the street was the only thing we could fine. The breakfast was terrible. Toast, cereal, croissant muffins. No one restocked the food so if the oj was out, it was gone for the entire time. You had to bus your own dishes and there was only peanut butter and strawberry and orange jam packets . Coffee cream was alway gone. Coffee was cold. Coffee was weak. No fruit, yogurt or anything that was fresh or had to be chilled. Basically it seemed like it was set up at 8am and then they just walked away. Not worth the price with breakfast included.
Nice Budget Accommodations with a French feel
stayed here while visiting Montreal with my mother. Friendly staff, small but adequate room with tv and refrigerator. Cobwebs in the bathroom light fixture and the bed springs on my side made me feel slanted toward the floor were our only negative observations. Continental breakfast in the morning with bread products, cereal, and beverages only. We would stay here again if we ever return to Montreal.
