Affordable, dog-friendly and close to the Rock!
Reviewed 19 May, 2021
We booked our hotel room here based off of reviews on Kayak.com...we were looking for a reasonably priced room close to Morro Rock. Our experience here was great! The room was very clean and auiet, and while some might consider it on the small side, it was perfect for 2 of us and a medium-sized dog with all of our stuff (including a surfboard and large cooler). It’s a very pet friendly hotel, there were many doggies staying there while we were and the hotel staff gave us a little doggie goodie bag! Our interactions with hotel staff were infrequent but always friendly. We had a room on the 2nd floor in the rear of the hotel, which afforded us a fantastic view of Morro Rock (when the fog wasn’t covering it). I was disappointed to learn that the pool wasn’t heated and therefore not open for swimming while we were there...but at least I was able to walk 5 minutes to the beach at Morro Rock to surf! It was about a 20 minute stroll from the shops & restaurants in downtown Morro Bay to the hotel...not bad at all. I would definitely recommend the Motel 6 to anyone looking for an affordable place to stay while in Morro Bay!
Bare minimum motel. Not worth it

I knew it was a Motel 6 but this one in Morro Bay is ridiculous. The rooms are super tiny. Nowhere to store your suitcase. No dresser. Not even a hairdryer. And forget about a coffee machine or a microwave. It would have nice to gave them in time of Covid since there is no coffee offered in the lobby. Actually there is no lobby. You check in and out at a window. Next time, we will pay a bit more and stay somewhere that doesn’t look like a convent room.
When we checked in, they handed us a garbage bag?

Before we arrived, I hurt my leg...they gave us a ground floor room. God bless them. ($150 a night). We reserved two beds...but room had only one. The girl offered to move us ..but said it would cost us more. We declined. Our room was small, with no carpet - it had a phone and TV but.. no blow dryer - no iron - no coffee maker - no shampoo/conditioner - no usb plugs - no microwave - no refridgerator...not even a bible. They did give us a garbage bag when we checked-in. They told us they would give us more towels....when we returned a full set of dirty towels (in the garbage bag) to the office. We will not stay here again.
Been here before and will be back.

Good low budget hotel, great location and pet policy

I should start this by saying that I grew up coming to this hotel as a kid, so even as an adult, I’ve generally known what to expect when you come here. The hotel itself is very basic. Rooms are clean, updated, and pleasant if you know to expect a very small room with almost no amenities. They provide you with towels, and a bar soap, but no other toiletries besides toilet paper. Rooms are very small, and the hotel really offers no amenities except a pool (which isn’t commonly found here, so a plus for families) , a ice machine, and pretty good vending machines. No views from the rooms. No sitting area to relax, unless you count taking your chair from your room and sitting on the walkway.
What it lacks in amenities, it makes up for in location if you like the beach, and to be in a quiet area. You are located just up the street from several Morro Strand beach access points, but I would recommend bringing a wagon if you’re intending to lug a lot of stuff down for a beach day. But still a good walk even if you just want to take a towel and sit out. It’s also a close walk to the walking trail bridge that connects this side of Morro Bay to the Embarcadero. It is not located close to downtown Morro Bay with the Embarcadero and all the restaurants, but nice if you just want to spend more time going down to the beach.
They also allow up to two dogs to stay for free, which works out great for us because sometimes we like to bring our dogs. Also a great location if you have dogs, as there is a park behind the hotel, and a nice walk down to the beach to get them to use the bathroom.
We don’t come here often, because I do like more amenities, but every once in a while it’s nice when we have the dogs, and I want to stay someplace where I can walk down to sand and walk along the beach. Don’t expect a lot from the hotel itself, but it will be clean, and the staff is very very helpful and friendly.
