Bootstrapped Air Conditioning
Let me start by saying that I made a mistake. I would have stayed at the Hilton in Naples - that hotel rocks. They even have beach cruiser bicycles that you can rent out for free from the front desk. You should definitely go there instead. The mistake I made was that I completely forgot where I was, within the swamp that they call the state of Florida - and I booked the Hampton Inn. It's close to the airport, and that was why I got it. Dang it. Whoever (whomever? Who whom who?) the interior designer of the hotel is - I'm guessing she's around the same age as my grandma. The hallways are painted seafoam green, which makes you feel like you are inside of a container of mint chocolate chip ice-cream. Yum. When you get to your semi-updated room, you'll find a bathroom with all of the handles and nozzles of the original bathroom from the Super 8 Motel that they probably bought this place from. The best part is that this hotel is so cheap that they installed a "power saving" (money saving) system for the air conditioning - God bless corporate America and late stage capitalism. It's a bootstrap system that appears to update the unit that's wall mounted - you know the type with the red digital screen that are usually pretty reliable? Yeah they ruined it. Unfortunately, with the new system that controls it from across the room, they bypassed the controls of the air conditioner so that you can't leave it on constant fan. In addition, there's a thermostat that they placed on the cold metal cooling fins, so when you set a temperature (such as 65°F, which is the temperature that I require to sleep in a crappy hotel in Florida so that the oversized comforter doesn't make me sweat to death) - the thing thinks it's really cold and it never turns on. It thinks the room is 60°, when it's actually closer to 75° (yes, I brought my thermometer to make sure I don't have the covids). So, being the solution oriented person that I am, I took the whole thing apart, removed the poorly wired thermostat, placed it between two stained couch cushions away from the unit (to warm it up) - and voila (that means 'there you are' in French). The constant fan still didn't work, but I tricked the thermostat into thinking it was warmer in the room, so the A/C stayed on. When I woke up at 4am, I put the cover on my redesigned, newly functioning unit, threw away the 'half cup of dried cranberries flavored like strawberries' that came with my water bottles, and went on to live my life. Moral of the story is... Go to the Hilton.
Okay
You can tell this is an old building. The room was great, initially. A problem came up with our lock where it remained unlocked. They were very fast to try to take care of the problem, but they could not fix it so we had to change rooms. The rooms we were moved to were ok but there was an issue with the AC in one of them. It was ok since it was pretty cool outside. Breakfast was a to go box with a bagel, some eggs and yogurt. Which, under the circumstances, was okay but they didn’t have any juices and their vending machines were not supplied with water or fruit juices, just sugary drinks. Our stay was Okay for a one night stay. Their staff was very accommodating and fast to try to tackle the issues that came up. If you stay here, the Mexican restaurant nearby was great.
Overall good hotel.
Just starting to show it’s age. Also doesn’t have an on site washer or dryer which would have been nice. Front desk staff was very professional and helpful! I would stay here again with no problem. Great location. Plenty of parking and easy to get in and out of.
Burn the Place Down
This is an old property that does not measure up to a typical Hampton Inn property. If that was not bad enough, we have NEVER encountered such rude and inconsiderate staff. The maids would literally knock over people who were attempting to exit the elevator as they pushed ahead with carts full of towels. One last comment, Hampton Inn needs to reassess the eggs they serve at breakfast - - - they are literally out of this world (and I do not mean that in the good sense of the phrase). It appears they are powered eggs that came out of a box - - - pretty sure they did not come out of a egg shell!
Clean and Comfortable
This hotel was clean and efficiently run. My room was clean and very pleasant. The breakfast buffet was excellent! I think when one is arriving in the evening and looking for dinner, it should be noted that there is a very nice Mexican restaurant across the street from the hotel. The desk staff was efficient but did not seem to know much about their city. There is a small gym and pool on site.
