Traveling During a Pandemic
We arrived at The Giacomo about 3PM on Friday June 5. Doug greeted us with a smile, and had upgraded our room to Room 404 which had a fireplace and a jacuzzi. It is a suite located in the corner. The room was spectacular, and we were so grateful for the upgrade. The room was exceptionally clean, with a note directly addressed to us, as well as a cleanliness note that the room had been sterilized. The lights were on in our room as we opened the door, and soft music was playing! As we entered the room we realized there was a room of "giggly girls" next to us. I will tell you...they were absolutely no problem. The soundproofing is excellent, and obviously the girls had a great time, without bothering other guests!! Our night could not have been more quiet...and the bed was super comfortable!! Niagara Falls was obviously not open to tourists. The park was open, but no attractions were available. The hotel is literally a 5 minute walk to the heart of the falls. We knew this before traveling. It was AWESOME!! We have been to Niagara Falls before-and normally it is body to body with long lines. Friday there was literally noone at the park, a bit busier on Saturday, but still easy to do social distancing. We ate dinner early about 4:30 at The Anchor Bar, that had just started outside dining. We wanted to be back at our hotel before the protests began-but they were very respectful and never impacted our stay whatsoever. Speaking of social distancing...All staff wore masks, as did we in common areas. The keys had been premade and were on a table in front of the front desk so that we were distanced from the desk clerk. Obviously, the rules were being followed very well for safety for all. The Giacomo is part hotel, part residences. Floors 2-6 are hotel, 7-18 are personal residences . The 19th floor is a gorgeous lounge that has 360 degree views of the area. The falls can be seen from there. We went up to check it out about 5:00. We were the only ones there. At 8 when we went back up for sunset it had a few people, but everyone was distancing. We brought a bottle of wine and stayed about an hour. The views are incredible!! The rooms contained plush bathrobes for use. There was a Keurig with real coffee cups and a refrigerator. In the morning we received the room service breakfast we had ordered the night before. Traditionally they have a breakfast buffet, but when that was shut down they switched to room service. We had pancakes and bacon...spectacular! We had a little tiny issue that our deadbolt did not work. It is not something housekeeping would have even checked into. It was not a problem at all-and in the morning when we checked out we mentioned it. They were happy to hear about it, but upset that we had to deal with it. It definitely was NOT an issue. Fantastic trip!!! We were glad we chose to keep our reservation, and will return again when things open back up.
Weekend visit to Niagra Falls
Stayed @ The Giacomo for Memorial Day weekend, cute hotel that’s as close to the Falls as you can get. It’s a short walk to the park and if you get a room on a high enough floor, you’ll have a beautiful Fall’s view. There’s no pool and we checked out early w/o trying the free breakfast that’s included. If you like historic buildings and Art Deco, this hotel is for you. The beds & pillows were comfortable and the bathroom was HUGE, complete with bathrobes. I’ve included a picture of the hotel entry area.
Unique Hotel, Full of Character
I love staying at hotels like this that have taken the effort to preserve history. The building itself is reason enough to stay here. You can see an attention to detail and quality in the architecture that you just don't see in modern buildings. They have done a good job of providing a comfortable experience while maintaining the beauty of the original building. The hotel also offers a lot of perks that make them stand out from the crowd. For starters, including valet parking in a fenced lot and breakfast in the room rate makes this a good deal compared to many of the other nearby hotels. In a tourist area like this you often see hotels charging extra for everything they can. The breakfast was filling and offered a nice variety. It's also conveniently located for anyone who wants to be able to walk from the hotel to the falls and the adjacent park. T here are a good number of restaurants nearby but many are touristy venues such as Rainforest Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, etc. We stayed in one of the corner rooms with a fire place. It was a lovely room. It was nice to be able to sit in the love seat and enjoy the fire on a cold winter night. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. I appreciated that they took the time to create a personalized letter welcoming you to your room. An added bonus at the hotel was the 18th floor lounge which offered wonderful views of the falls area and areas surrounding Niagara Falls. The one negative I did notice was that the room did seem to be showing signs of wear. There was a shade from the window laying on our bed after we checked in. I assume someone was supposed to come fix that and just never made it there but it did diminish an otherwise great first impression. Some of the furniture is also starting to show wear as was the bathroom where I noticed some peeling paint on part of the ceiling and a loose toilet seat. These are all things that can be fixed relatively easily but I hope they take the time to do so because with the charm this hotel has I'd hate to see it diminished by not keeping up with regular maintenance.
We have been traveling there weekl for business. We stay in the same room every week. It really feels like home there. Every night at 8 pm, they bring around fresh baked cookies and milk to each guest.
