Best value for a hotel in Manhattan
Reviewed 9 September, 2021
Before the pandemic my wife and I traveled to Manhattan regularly from our home in Germany for month long visits to one of NYs best college towns, where we have a seasonall residence. I discovered the Leo House on W. 23rd St about 10 years ago and, since then, it is where I always try to stay. For value it can't be beat and the price includes a terrific breakfast 6 days a week. Because it is affiliated with the Catholic Church--I am not religious--there are no city and state taxes to pay. This is a real savings in NYC. The location is very near to the High Line and nearby is the Flat Iron District with some of NYC's internationally famous restaurants *3 Michelin stars. However, the Leo House is not where, with a few exceptions, the people who frequent these restaurants would ever stay. The prices are the best in Manhattan and service friendly. But, its not a place where most, except for the coolest wealthy would ever stay. Accommodations are simple but for ca. $100/night, including breakfast, there is nothing like it in Manhattan. As a US, with German residency and living for more than 20 years in Germany's coolest city, Leipzig, I'm especially proud of its mid-1800s German heritage.
Quiet, Safe, Clean, Comfortable, Affordable, Wonderful actually!

I started staying at The Leo House a few years back, I was traveling to NYC alone and wanted a place I felt safe in. A friend told me about The Leo House. Of course I had stayed at High End Hotels, nothing had prepared me for my wonderful stay at The Leo House, I have returned yearly! I was there for a week the first of Aug this yr, 2021, my stay was wonderful, I felt safe, the staff is respectful, engaging and warm. Due to Covid 19 they were running on less staff than normal, my favorite staff members were there, INCLUDING the housekeeper! The Leo House has great personality, lots of spaces to spend time in! Words can not define what I feel about my visits to Leo House, one has to experience it. I love the neighborhood as well. Leo House has made my visits to NyC much more welcoming.
Solid place with reasonable price in NYC

Love hospitality front desk staff gave us, and the complimentary breakfast is great! The hotel is right above one of the subway lines, and there are many restaurants options as well. In terms of noise, it's pretty quiet at night.
Basic but comfortable and affordable stay in the heart of NYC

Great stay for basic but affordable housing in the heart of NYC. Very clean and comfortable with all basic amenities in the room and additional available by request at the front desk (hairdryer, etc). Very friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast. It can get a bit noisy at night as the building is older and it’s design lends the hallways to echo. They do provide earplugs in the rooms for free. My room was at the end of the hall and I did not need them, but if you are closer to the elevator they would be needed. Overall a wonderful stay. I will be back if I’m in NYC again!
Very unhelpful and unfriendly people!!

We had a booking at this hotel in May 2020. Due to the Covid situation it was not possible to visit New York. When I have asked to visit the hotel again in 2022 they said that it was “strange that I asked for it”. Which is very strange since we still can't fly to America. They even didn’t give any discount or refund. I also received a rude email back. Dont go to this place!!
