Treated like family

This family owned hotel, has a warm and cosy feel to it. Georg, the owner, went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant stay. He came to pick us up at the train station when we couldn’t get a taxi and also drove us back to the station at the end of our stay. He went on line and helped us organize our train tickets and suggested local restaurants that served traditional Germany cuisine. The breakfast included with the room had fresh fruit, cheese, meat, 2 types of eggs, bacon, yogurts, cereals and bread goods as well as beverages. Nothing was too much for the staff. They were very pleasant and accommodating.
Our room was quite large with a bathroom, a sitting area, small beer fridge and a balcony. The towel warming rack was great for drying hand washed clothing.
If you come for the Konig Ludwig Lauf cross country ski race, the finish line is about 400 metres from the hotel!
If you come to see the Passion Plays, the theatre is just down the street.
Thank you Georg for your hospitality. We really appreciated it. We certainly will stay at your hotel again if we are ever in Oberammergau, Germany.
Good hotel let down by little things.

Ok, lets get the key thing out of the way first. This hotel is right next to a church and those bells ring on the hour every hour throughout the night. My room was at the front so the sound was more of an issue for me than other guests at the back of the hotel. This is pretty annoying to be honest, the hotel was booked through work and so I had no influence on the booking.
The GOOD, there is good wifi in the hotel, it is fast and easy to connect to. The hotelier waited for me to arrive (late flight) which was appreciated. The hotel is in a good central location and within easy access of all the nice things in Oberammergau. During the week the breakfast service was good, prompt and with a reasonable range. The rooms were cleaned regularly and the service was good.
The BAD, there was no kettle in the rooms, which seems like a serious omission these days I went and brought my own kettle to have a brew over the 2 weeks that I stayed here. The plug on the sink broke regularly. The sound proofing in the hotel is rubbish and you could clearly hear other guests conversations throughout the hotel. Finally the pillows were rubbish, I mean genuinely terrible.
All in its a fairly mixed experience, my colleague stayed in the hotel but had a room at the back and did have a better experience. If you are staying, it is worth specifying a room at the back and probably bringing a travel kettle.
Magical New Year!

Our ambition was to be at the Four Hills Ski Jumping event held in Garmisch Partenkirchen every New Years Day. We opted to stay in Oberammergau for the week following Christmas and up to 2 January 2019. We stayed at the Hotel Turmwirt, a lovely family run hotel in the heart of Oberammergau. It was magical. The family made us very welcome, spoke excellent English and kept a very well run hotel. The breakfast offered a huge variety to cater for all tastes and the dining area looked out onto the nearby church. The rooms were always clean and tidy. Parking is the only downside, there was only enough room for about four cars. Oberammergau is a delight and quite magical in the snow. Fabulous holiday.
Quaint hotel with modern amenities in great location

My husband and adullt son stayed in hotel May 15 and were very pleased with service, spaciousness, location, good breakfast and free parking. It is run by family and they are friendly, attentive and helpful. The exterior is pretty with murals on the walls and our room was nicely decorated and comfortable. We were in a corner room with views of the Alps on one side and a historic church and cemetery on the other. Nice little private balcony that we could open up to out son’s if we wanted. Great shower and amenities. Th location was excellent and near shops and restaurants. We enjoyed walking the cobblestone streets and looking into shop windows when we arrived. When we lived in Germany forty years ago we went to Oberammergau many times, but never stayed overnight and I am glad we did this time. It has a different atmosphere that is quieter and more like a German village. Oh, the hotels breakfast is quite good with lots of food and served in a pretty little room with lots of windows. We were very pleased with hotel and feel we got a good value.
Nice hotel but horrible service

The experience with this hotel was actually good until the last day. While I was at work my wife was kicked out of her room prior to checkout time. If the cleaners or the owner had asked nicely if this would be ok, it would have been no problem. But when the owner shows up at the door and demand that you leave the room so that he doesn’t have to pay the cleaners more than absolutely necessary, then it is not ok!
