Willing to Leave Paying Customers on the streets of a foreign city

For starters, keep as far away as possible from this HOSTEL as possible as it cannot be counted as a hotel. We booked a 2 nights stay here 8 months in advance to ensure a cheap price for our stay. We rang to confirm the booking a month before our arrival and were assured that the booking was paid in full and we did not have to worry.
Upon arrival we were then told that our booking had been cancelled the week before we had originally rang to confirm. The hostel had all our contact details yet failed to inform us of this knowing we were arriving from a foreign country and would have nowhere else to go.
The staff were completely unconcerned about our safety and repeatedly denied responsibility for our booking. The staff sent us to their sister hotel "Hotel du Nord" assuring us they would have space for us for €60 a night as they had rang in advance.
On arrival we were told it would be €70 a night instead, having the choice of staying here or on the street we had no choice but to pay it. Walking through the hotel it was absolutely filthy and the smell of the indoor rubbish bins was nauseating. We were shown to our room where we greeted to a MOUSE climbing down the curtain. We immediately requested to be moved and the receptionist gave us a bedroom 2 floors up as "there was no way a mouse could be up there".
The room was marginally better, however all furnishings were extremely dated and there were stains on the wall. Overall it was a horrendous experience for my partner and I and I would recommend giving this hostel a wide berth if you are going to Paris. If you value yourself at all pay the tiny bit of extra cash to be sure you have a place to stay at night far away from here.
Spotless but missing some vital basics!

Was very disappointed with aspects of this hotel. Should have done my homework properly. They are a few hotels in Paris with the same name so was looking at the wrong hotel before we departed London!
Whilst I can’t fault the cleanliness of this hotel (cleaner than some of the five star hotels that I’ve been to!), the Internet and the location (smack right near the metro and with plenty of shops, cafes, etc nearby) unfortunately this hotel lacked the basics. My first biggest disappointment was that there was no kettle in the room. I thought the days I carried my travel kettle everywhere had gone! For me a kettle is essential as I don’t function unless I have ‘my’ tea. A mixture of Indian and English tea!
Secondly there was zero air conditioning in the room. At night we had to risk it (was not the safest of areas) and leave all the windows wide open whilst we slept. Luckily it was only a three night stay and it cooled down after the first day!
Thirdly there was only one charging point in the entire room!
Other small things were that there was no Safe to put our valuables in and the room was small especially the bathroom/toilet. Never see such a small toilet area! Had to move our legs around to have a pee! The ‘wardrobe’ area could have done with more than 1/2 hangers!

Reading the reviews before myself and my 11 year old daughter left for Paris I was a little concerned. The reviews couldn't be more inaccurate, great location, clean rooms and fantastic service. We arrived at 9.30 and check in wasnt until 2, as the room was ready the owner allowed us to check in early at no extra cost. The team at reception were more than helpful in helping us to get our bearings and offered suggestions of things to do and places to visit along with the easiest ways to get there.
I see alot of reviews mentioning a bad smell in the hotel, we did not experience this other than the first morning and having walked extensively across Paris during our stay this is a common smell across the city, and is more to do with the cities drainage system rather than the hotel's cleanliness. I would highly recommend this hotel for short breaks in the city. Thankyou for your hospitality

There’s cheap and then there’s this place... Doesn’t look anything like the photos. The stairs up to the room are a narrow spiral staircase that’s not even level, would be almost impossible to get a suitcase up it.
Room was grubby and smelt foul (a mix of damp and cigarette smoke). We stayed 2 nights in room 7 which was advertised as a double but you can only get to one side of the bed and there was only one power socket. There was also no privacy as the curtains can’t be closed with the widows open, which need to be left open because of the smell and the heat. The sliding door to the tiny bathroom wasn’t attached properly and the light fitting was hanging out of the ceiling. You also have to hand your key back to reception every time you go out which I thought was odd. Didn’t bother trying the breakfast after all the coughing and sneezing we heard.
Only positives were that it’s close to the metro and some nice places to eat.
Lovely hotel in great area with helpful, kind staff

I was staying at Hôtel de l’Europe for 1 week during my search for an apartment in Paris and found it to be a great experience. While some people would consider it a little basic, it is a much nicer experience to stay somewhere authentic and run by polite and personable staff than a big chain hotel. My single room had everything I needed (desk, toilet, sink, bedside table, tv, comfy bed) and was cosy, housekeeping kept the room perfectly clean and stocked with soap/shower gel and toilet roll every day. My room faced the street and the window was a little hard to close but as long as you aren’t bothered by the usual evening sounds you will be fine. One thing is that the room was not soundproofed as I could hear the TV in the other rooms near to mine, but this didn’t really bother me personally as it was just from time to time.
The area is also a great app location, close to many restaurants down avenue de Clichy, there are a lot of options ranging in price and cuisine so anyone who stays here can have a lot of choice of where to eat or get a coffee. If you don’t fancy going out for a coffee, there is a small machine at reception which is only €1 for a coffee which was also convenient. I didn’t try the breakfast so I can’t comment on that. Plenty of shops, bars and supermarkets nearby as well. Note also that the hotel provides a shuttle service to Paris airports which is considerably cheaper than taxi/Uber, thanks to the staff at reception for notifying me of this. The staff were great too, I speak French but they have good English proficiency if you don’t. Very helpful and personable and I definitely built a good rapport with them from staying for a few days.
If you are looking for a lower budget option in an optimum location that isn’t too loud or busy, and close to touristic areas, this hotel will be great for you. I had a lovely experience staying here with no trouble or discomfort and would highly recommend this hotel.
