Delightful and secluded
This is a lovely spot run by a delightful gentleman who clearly enjoys people. The surroundings are beautiful and, though my visit was during the week when most things were closed, he drove me wherever I needed to go, including into neighboring cities for dinner. I would (and indeed hope to) return here in a heartbeat.
Peaceful Mountain Retreat Close to Rio
A charming hotel that makes the most of its natural surroundings: plenty of trees and birds, located along a pristine natural stream. Once inside your room you get the quality of any top notch hotel, with a beautiful window view throws you back into the lush green mountain scene of Petropolis. The area is really peaceful. Perfect for some reading, meditation and spending time in good company. There is a nice wooden Japanese style jacuzzi where one can soak in warm water while enjoying the cool evening breeze. Perhaps the only down side is that they do not have many rooms, so make sure you book in advance otherwise it might be hard to get a spot (we could not extend our 4 day stay for another night because they were fully booked).
Pousada Riacho is Excellent.
My wife and I from Atlanta stayed there two nights with friends. They have beautiful grounds, a sauna, swimming pool and pool table and ping pong table. The hosts set out an excellent breakfast. The room had a great amenities , a personal wood stove, a full size whirlpool bath. It is luxury in the middle of the forest. Well worth visiting.
Perfect retreat from the city
If you are looking for a get-away from the city, this is the perfect place. There is a collection of cabins spread across the lush property in the forest with a rushing stream running through the middle of everything. There is a public lodge where a delicious breakfast is served. We were received graciously by the owners and stayed in a recently renovated cabin. I highly recommend it.
A hidden gem
Pousada Riacho Doce is a hidden gem. Surrounded by an abundance of natural flora and fauna. The owners were extremely hospitable and the breakfast was delicious. Plenty of great tasting fruits and pastries. My husband and I spent four days at the lodge and our experience could not have been better. I ventured with a friend outside of pousada for a pleasant hike. Later on, I found out that there are some small waterfalls close by. These we will definitively check out next time we visit. Overall, a great place to enjoy good company and nature.
