Service is good, but it's run down and dirty
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on a recent personal trip. Good: the staff are excellent. Friendly and attentive. Breakfast area & lobby are clean and well kept. It's off University drive and 5 minutes from the mall and several shopping centers, so easy to find restaurants. Bad: We stayed in the second tower, away from the lobby, in a suite. It's very outdated decor. Our room was pretty dirty. It looked like the sheets had been changed, but that was about it. Surfaces didn't look clean. Half the outlets didn't work. The lighting in the room is very poor. The bathroom had a ton of mold, and the refillable containers in the shower looked rusted. The corners of the room/bathroom had dust/dirt in them. In the elevators, you can tell they've cleaned the floor, but none of the other surfaces. Definitely NOT what I've come to expect from Holiday Inn, and at this price point. If you can stay somewhere else, do it.
It Was Okay
Typical Holiday Inn. Free wi-fi, good hot breakfast, free computer stations in the lobby, the computer table had spots that were never wiped away. Hot water for tea/coffee in the lobby comes from a plastic container manually filled somewhere. Room was clean, but again have doubts about whether the bed linens had been changed or not. From here to the beaches, it takes about thirty minutes.
could be better
The Good: 1. Location- near to shopping (mall 5 minutes down the road) and 10-15 minutes from all points of Plantation. Reputable hotels in Plantation seem to be limited to University Blvd area though. 2. Complimentary breakfast- well stocked kitchen, granted it was the same eggs, sausage, bread each morning at least it was available, edible, and they never seemed to run out of food. Pancake maker is a thing of wonder; it was OK but a bit rubbery. 3. Room size- we got a junior suite which was enormous, plenty of space for several people to sit in comfortably. I would consider arranging the furniture differently for better utilization of space but the amount of space was definitely a Plus. The Bad: 1. Parking- not enough parking near to hotel entrances. Back entrance does not have a wheelchair ramp and no disabled parking at the door. Side door is locked after a certain hour (which front desk did not mention) and you have to use back entrance. 2. Cleanliness- overall clean in terms of linens and hard surfaces, however our room seemed to be in need of a deep clean. I noticed dirt on the light fixtures and switches, dried stains on curtains. The windows look like they have not been cleaned in years. 3. Kitchenette- refrigerator made a penetratingly loud noise (high pitched squeal), which I was able to stop by turning it down a little. Kitchen is adequate with something like a microwave, sink and cabinets but no dishes or utensils; you would likely need to rent from the front desk separately. 4.Bathroom- Bathroom vent was obtrusively loud. You would have to turn off the light in the bathroom as soon as you're done in the shower just to hear yourself think. I'm sure this just needs maintenance to solve. The Ugly 1. Noise- we had noisy neighbors on 2/3 nights of the stay. On the second night the group adjacent stayed up late blaring music loudly and the last night another group in the other room stayed up until 4am talking and laughing. We had a 6am wake up time to leave for the airport. This hotel seems to host large groups and young party crowd in general. 2. Dated- some updates have been made to the hotel (floors, beds, furniture) however the entire structure could use an overhaul to remove popcorn ceilings, elevate ceiling height, improve room lighting, etc.
The extremely poor service ruins everything
I am currently on this trip. I booked the stay weeks or maybe a month ago. I utilized my reward points for one night and prepaid the others with IHG reservations. When I checked in I was advised that it was booked as two separate reservations one for rewards and the other paid. I would simply need to stop by the desk in the morning and have the keys reprogrammed? Even this I didn’t consider a problem at all even though it seems unnecessary. When I went to the desk in the morning it was the most offensive and embarrassing customer interaction I’ve had. Even though the room is paid for I am booking reservations at another hotel at this moment. I would rather pay twice rather than be exposed to the rudeness of the staff here.
The most terrible experience happened to me and my husband. We reserved a room to celebrate my birthday and after give us a room that is unfinished repair they give us an occupied room full with clothes and heavy drinks. You can’t know imagine what scary and embarrassing moment we had. Just to think somebody can be madd that we open there personal room. I don’t come back to this place sorry😔
