Old but reasonable hotel
This is a traditional, quite old local hotel. Rooms have been partially refurbished and are generally comfortable with modern beds but rooms on the small side. Bathrooms look and feel old, and so are the showers. Breakfast is OK - this is one ps re best hotels in the area, although somewhat expansive - you may get better deals in nearby hotels that have not a big difference in comfort to this one.
Only if you like 60's bond movies.
Even if the hotel looks pretty posh upon arrival, don't be fooled. Not much has happened here in 40yrs. My favorite: -My AC is not working. -Yes, we have no power! There is a room called "gym", not worth a visit. There's breakfast available, if like sausage stew or cakes. I was really trying to wrinte something serious, but I get emotionally drained just thinking about the place.
Large, spacious, but dated hotel
Stayed at Vila Velha for 4 nights in October 2012, for business a business trip. Arriving on Sunday, the place had a deserted feel to it (even though the stuff was present at the front desk). The outside of the hotel and lobby have been updated fairly recently, while the rooms (ground floor) have been last re-designed in the 80s. Rooms are clean, well maintained, nothing creaks or threatens to fall apart. You get a lot of sq.footage for the price and the view over the jungle is ok. Each room has a fairly large flatscreen (which is the only modern amenity). Having said all that, the rooms are just very dated and dark. Same goes for the bathroom, where while daily cleaning is good, some small mould problems are already there. Bathroom toiletries are very limited for even a 3* hotel - shampoo package. No shower gel, conditioner, or any other extras. The hotel was very quiet during my stay, but on the occasions when there were more people in hotel corridors, noise travelled very well. Breakfast was very good. Somewhat varied every morning, with 4-6 warm options, loads of cakes, fruit and some local specialties. Hotel service was ok. Difficult to judge as noone spoke any English. Free wifi and LAN internet. Hotel gym - no towels or water to drink, consisted of a room with 3 machines, one of which was not working. Overall, just barely ok hotel. Would benefit from major reno.
nice place to stay
The building presents a very beaultiful architeture. Rooms are very confortable, staff is gentle, always smiling and present. you should try the "café colonial", but forget about diet, and be prepared to eat a lot .
Deffo stay again !!!!
Arrived after a nightmare journey from UK to get here and was pleasantly surprised with the Hotel. First impressions (after no sleep for 32 hours) was good. Hotel is trying to come into the present day and is VERY clean. Staff are polite and always speak ! Rooms are value for money ! TV poor for english guests. Reastaurant is very good. Attatched to hotel but run by Family Mikulis (manager needs lessons in lookin after good customers). Food was excellent but i had an 8 week saty so got a bit boring, waiters are 1st class. New menu will be in english along side portugese (i've been assured). Chef was good and involved himself with customers. All in all good , clean, comfortable accomodation !!!
