Lovely stay

I spent 2 very comfortable nights at Merchant House. As other reviewers have mentioned the rooms are compact but comfortable and have everything you need. David is an excellent host and has created a real home from home. I would definitely stay again.

Small cosy townhouse B&B, close to the quay, and the best breakfast in Poole and probably the south coast beyond

Reviewed 2 august, 2022

I've stayed here around 4 or 5 times in the last couple of years so thought it was time I dropped a review. Townhouse B&B, set 1 street back from the quayside. Quaint and cosy, homely. Compact and bijou rooms, small doubles, but well furnished and decent bath/shower rooms. It's a small quiet establishment with only 4 rooms. David is a great host. Plenty of choice for eating and drinking out within a stones throw and David will happily give advice/recommendations. Superb breakfast, homecooked (including the bread) well prepared with thought, care and good ingredients. A proper quality full English (no greasy spoon here) and frankly even the "half" will see you fit for a day, and there are cereals, nuts, seeds, berries, natural yoghurt, jam, honey etc too if you have the space for any more. Probably the best English breakfast in Poole and the South Coast and possibly one of the best breakfasts I've had in any B&B or top end hotel for that matter, and I'm typically away for 60-70 nights a year so have a few. To give you an idea on this mornings : Sausages (lincolnshire or similar) with grilled apple slices, black pudding with grilled courgette and chorizo, thick rashers of proper bacon, egg (obviously), fried mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, potato and sweet potato fritters, beans, toasted home made bread, fantastic.

Great place to stay

Just had a fantastic stay here. David was very welcoming and his local knowledge helped us book two great meals out. The room was very clean and the place perfectly located for the harbour. The breakfast was amazing with homemade bread. I would definitely recommend this place.

Would Stay Again

Treasure. David is an excellent host. The breakfast alone is worth the stay. Huge meal, with homemade bread, jams, delicious coffee. David provided great suggestions for dinner, visiting the area, and arranged a taxi for an early morning pick up. The rooms are compact, but have everything you need and more. Kettle for tea, fan, charming decorations. Great location, easy to get to the waterfront where there are a plethora of restaurants, and a few small shops. If you’re a light sleeper the area is quiet at night. Would definitely stay again.
