Awful location, old hotel
I'm a gold member but did not get an upgrade to a better and bigger room. The one assigned to me was small and smelly (cigarettes and humidity). You can walk to downtown if you are brave, many homeless harassing tourist. By paying over $300 a night I was expecting a much better experience. Not recommended.
Weekend Stay in Portland
My wife and I were in Portland visiting our son who is working remotely in the there for a month or so. Being from Boston we had visited Portland on several occasions but never really spent time exploring. The location of this hotel is perfect for really getting to know downtown. Walking distance to everything. The hotel is terrific, staff is super friendly and helpful, facilities are comfortable and in meticulous condition. It is pet friendly which worked out well. Nothing negative to say, it was great.
The hotel advertises as "upscale hotel, " so I came to expect a dose of luxury. I found a mediocre hotel, well located though, close to downtown Portland. With the caveat of COVID 19, (although in June 2021 many restrictions were lifted), I found the hotel lacking in service. The room was clean, with a coffee maker, a safe, tv and a radio. We were supposed to ask for housekeeping service, but were not informed of it, so our supply of coffee, or shampoo was not replenished. Bottled water was complementary, downstairs in the reception are, but again no one informed us of it. The tv, had only regular channels, no access to streaming services. Wifi was free.
Beautiful hotel and friendly staff!
We stayed here memorial day weekend and were so glad we picked it. The staff was extremely friendly at check in, the shuttle service from the hotel to nearby places saved us a lot of money and trouble trying to find a lyft or taxi service. the breakfast that was included for us as bonvoy members was average, but gain the staff very nice and friendly. Must visit the rooftop lounge, one side has spectacular views of the sunset, but get there early to get a table!
Not all managers are equal! - 3 star review because the place has potential.
My now wife and I recently spent Memorial Day Weekend in Portland getting married. In general the experience was phenomenal, however across the an entire weekend filled with events there was only one disappointment. Prior to Covid I spent hundreds of nights in hotels as a consultant and not once have a met a hotel manager I instantly didn't like. When we arrived I asked if there were any upgrades available. I asked in a very nice way may I add. He then proceeded to tell me I was getting the room I paid for and didn't even bother to look. Second was that I made a simple request, it was that I upon check-in that there be a bottle of wine for my wife. We got there early, about 3 hours early. I completely understand why there was no bottle in the room up our arrival. However, when I called down to ask if they could bring one up the only thing that he did was proceed to tell me why it wasn't there and that I shouldn't expect it because I checked in early. So... I walked downstairs bought a bottle and brought it up. Not difficult. I don't even think he so much as congratulated us for getting married. ON THE OTHER HAND, we met someone whom we LOVED. His name is "Audi," I believe. That guy should run the hotel. Audi congratulated us, gave us recommendations, recommended wines for us and just plainly went out of his way to show that he cared about our stay in Portland. Long story short I recommend a change in staff. Someone people are management material, others are not. So people give you the service you'd expect on your wedding at a $500 dollar a night hotel. Others do not. O and the valet doesn't open until 7:30am. So if you need your car early make sure to say so in advance. Maybe something else the current Manager should do a better job addressing.
