The best location and the best service you can find in Porto. The staffs are very professional and kind. I felt home and safe due to the hospitality and care of the hotel staffs. The breakfast and housekeeping were great. The restaurant, RIB, has very good steaks and wines. The bar is top class.
An unexpectedly unpleasant experience
We booked this hotel through Expedia for a Classic Double Room for 2 nights 2/24-25/20. This room had no river view, only overlooked a street. The room rate was 2/24 182.08 and 2/25 160.38.The total for two nights would be 363.00Euro including taxes and fees.At reception we were told we could have a river view room and that the hotel would reduce the usual rate by 60 Euro. We accepted that. The first night was quite cold and the heating in the room did not work. My wife was coughing by the next morning. (By the time we reached Lisbon on the 26th, it had developed into a severe condition that required medical attention.) At reception, Bruno told us obviously the hotel didn't want us to catch a cold, but the air conditioning was a machine; sometimes machines don't work; it cannot be helped. We were astonished at this reply. He spoke to the manager, also named Bruno, who said they would remove the 60 Euro extra charge for that previous night. In addition, our corner room did have a sideways view of the river, but unfortunately it directly overlooked a cafe or restaurant where a large crowd of Scotland soccer team supporters were drinking, singing, and breaking bottles from morning to late night. This continued for the two nights of our stay. When I mark our room location and sleep quality and value as POOR, it is because of these factors) Furthermore, concerning room care, we called Bruno and said the facial tissues box was empty, and, after house cleaning, there were no bidet towels and, by contrast, there were 6 fresh bath towels. Bruno said he would see to it that the problem was corrected. But, after a day's walk around Porto, on returning to our room, the situation was unchanged. We had to call yet another time. On checking out, our bill was a total of 432.00 Euro. One night 253.00 Euro and another night 170.00 Euro, presumably with the reduction of 60 Euro because of the broken air conditioner. No doubt the street view room would have been quieter and possibly the heater working, because Bruno said he had no other complaints about the lack of heating, except for our room. Pestana's motto on our bill was "THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE." That it certainly was.
a fabulous hotel in a wonderful location
It took ages to choose which hotel to stay in for a recent few days in Porto. We couldn't be more pleased that the decision was Pestana Vintage Porto for many reasons. Being down on the river front amongst all the bars and restaurants with river cruise options and the ferry being close at hand and an easy walk back across the nearest bridge when we visited the Calem port house over the Douro . The welcome we had from the staff at Pestana was lovely , the room ( choose a river-view ) was gorgeous - spacious , nicely furnished with first rate bedding and every comfort.Any queries we had were dealt with in a friendly and most helpful charming manner. We used the Rib bar - down stairs and adjacent to the restaurant - daily - they make super Margharitas ! The restaurant serves a lovely breakfast - a la carte with everything you could possibly want - we ate there one evening for steak and it was all superb with wonderfully trained and charming serving staff I can't recommend this hotel highly enough and hope that we will use more Pestana group hotels in the years to come.
High service level
The breakfast at this hotel has erlier, per se, been one important reason to visit this hotel. There used to be sparkling wine available. There is an increasing number of hotels that outsource their restaurant part which often leads to a separate charge for the breakfast, like in the Pestana Amsterdam Riverside. This is a tragic development and a sign of poverness, The breakfast in Pestana Vintage Hotel is free of charge. The staff is incredibly professional and helpful. Tempora mutantur non nos et mutamur in illis.
A very nice hotel!
The location is excellent. We were able to park our car just about 100 meters from the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful in every respect. The previous time we visited Porto we stayed at the fantastic Pestana Palacio do Freixo which is situated a bit outside of sentral Porto. Pestana Vintage is situated right in the middle of the Ribeira District and with easy access to sentral Porto. The standard of this hotel is high and very comfortable. Their breakfast is available in the R&B Restaurant and there you will have some items ready on your table. Other items you have to order from the kitchen - a good alternative and you will not miss anything. Highly recommenable hotel if you plan to visit Porto!
