Not on the beach, but very comfortable room

Reviewed 15 march, 2020

We had late check in - no problem. Front desk staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was sufficiently large and had excellent WiFi, AC and TV with several english stations. The courtyard is a pleasant peaceful area. The hotel is located on the main road from the Airport to El Centro historico, so you may want to insist on a room not facing the main road, when you reserve. The bed was very comfortable.

Booked for 2 weeks; checked out after 1st night

At first, this hotel seemed pretty nice...not amazing, but ok... However, the beds were very hard and lumpy, and we had a terrible sleep. In the morning, my back was so stiff, I could hardly move. Also, the A/C did not function properly. But the final straw was that at some point in the middle of the night/early morning, the hotel's electrical went down, causing all of the toilet to stop working (they use an electrical pump for the toilets). To make matters worse, our particular toilet also developed a leak at some point in the early morning...so I unwittingly used the toilet in the morning, it didn't flush, and then proceeded to completely flood the bathroom floor. We alerted the front desk and they said they would send housekeeping up in a moment to fix it. We went out for breakfast and wandered around town a bit, and when we came back a few hours later, it was still not cleaned up! Now I can understand an electrical issue, that is not necessarily anyone's fault (though it could be, from lack of maintenance etc)...but to just leave our floor like that for hours without someone coming to clean it is absolute terrible service/cleanliness standards...disgusting!! We checked out immediately and went to Plaza Pelicanos, where we had a lovely stay instead.

Quiet and cosy

Patio courtyard has nice Mexican flare. Centrally located with exceptionally nice helpful staff. Rooms are modest and clean, very nice. .Has a pool on top floor, a great little coffee shop close by and is about a ten minute walk to the beach. There is a bus stop on the corner, buses are plentiful and seem to run every five minutes or,so. An easy walk to downtown would take about thirty minutes (if you want a free chiropractic treatment, take the bus...roads are very cobbley and drivers tend to go fast)... Hotel has free wifi but some did have trouble connecting; I didn't. Supermarket and banks nearby. Security on site. .

Great value + great stay

This was our first time staying at Suites mar Elena, but we’ll be back! The larger rooms with kitchens have a great spacious balcony. Regular rooms are spacious, but plain, and don’t have balconies. Rooftop pool is small but clean with great views and really nice chairs, umbrellas, tables, etc. And it’s open until 10pm. There’s a coffee shop downstairs, and a good (cheap) restaurant across the street. 3 min walk to the beach, access beside Canto del Sol.
