Worst Experience
This is the third Riu I’ve stayed at and I was so disappointed. The other two have been amazing, I don’t know why the one in the Dominican was so horrible. First, everything kept breaking down. Our elevator broke the first day and stayed that way for the four nights we were there. Second, there are 9 restaurants but only one open per night. The buffet food was horrible so we had no choice but go to the restaurant that was open, even after having it two days in a row. Third, the service was so bad that there was a fire in our room and nobody came. YES A FIRE. We went to the beach and came back and saw the outlet had exploded and burned the wall along with our items that were near the night stand, including my Apple Watch. I called three times and said we need somebody to come upstairs and check this out, clean it up, make it safe etc. We waited over three hours and NOBODY came. Not even the next day. Nobody even came to clean the room. We were forced to sleep in an unsafe room that smelled like burnt plastic. I used to swear by the Riu but not after this trip. Horrible horrible experience at the resort.
Drugs and dangerous
This was the worst experience in a RIU, during the week we were happy with the hotel we like the food and the staff are the best (Thank you Oscar from the italian restaurant and Luis Miguel from the pool bar they are the best). The problem are the weekends, where locals arrive and take over the hotel, literally. Illegal parties, drugs everywhere, people not from the hotel, outside bottles of alcohol and it becomes really dangerous for tourist that dont speak spanish. We couldnt sleep all night (until 4 am) as the party was in the middle of the hotel near thhe beach. The staff and security from the hotel couldnt do anything, if they say something these people attacked them. No covid measures and of course drugs everywhere, not safe and not relaxing. I made my complain as I have videos where security allows them to continue with the party even if other guest couldnt sleep
Great Resort
My friend and I stayed at this resort for 4 nights, and it was absolutely amazing! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, especially one of the servers, Darien. He always made sure we were well taken care of at all meals, and assisted with any questions we may have had. I would 100% recommend this resort to anyone who wants to visit Punta Cana!
Dumpy Dump Dump
This was my 14th visit to a RIU property and the first time I can say RIU you have let me down and I would not recommend this property to others. Check in: first room provided was dirty, second room was occupied third room was ok. Need to track down your own towels, soap, minibar items if you need them as requests for them went unnoticed. Property is in need of some MAJOR TLC & cleaning. Food & Drinks were below average to poor. Entertainment was typical for what you would expect at RIU, no complaints there. Service in dining room and dining room cleanliness was good. A/C in room worked well but fan only ran at high speed so to be warm enough while sleeping I had to leave fan off and patio door open except on night they burn garbage I had to close door due to awful smell. Take your own washcloths if you'd like some as they do not provide them.
I wanted to run away...
I want to mention quickly how this hotel does not enforce any kind of COVID19 safety measures and what I saw should have them fined and closed forever. They need to have an undercover police go there one day on the weekend and check it out. Parties at night with no employees overseeing anything, glass in the sand in the morning. Prostitutes would be seen bothering men and following them around. I later learned that this hotel is actually known for this kind of thing and that's what "adults only" actually means. A friend we met who was traveling alone was approached and bothered by two of these women so much that they followed him to his room and he had to change rooms. At any given time there are 5-6 other music sources around the pool - guests just bring and blast their own boomboxes at full volume. The ocean is no escape either as it's not calm and blue as it looks in their apparently doctored photos - we were even told by the employees not to go in because it's rough. The food was ok. The italian restaurant was pretty good but for being an all-inclusive, you should be able to eat at any time - that wasn't the case. Long periods during the day when restaurants were closed and the only thing open was the chips station. We wandered in to the "sports bar" one night and saw prostitutes hanging around, just quietly waiting for their next client. In the morning you see these foreign European men with visibly local girls having their silent breakfast - the employees avoid them.
