The resort is beautifully manicured. The seaweed was in high bloom so we spent a lot of time at the main pool. This is where we met out server, Desiree. Her service was spectacular from our first day to our last.
Stephanie,John and Walter at the pool entertainment group are fantastic!!!
Not all of the food was to our liking but.that was to be expected since we are from the USA.
Our room was nicely decorated. Our housekeeper Yane was very through and always smiling and accommodating. Since there is tile floor, I requested shower mats for next to the bed to wipe my feet before getting into bed. Everyday after she left new ones. We didn't want Pepsi so she left us water in it's place each day.
I took off two stars is because restaurant reservations were hard to get and not everyone gets one which leaves room service or buffet. We didn't come here to eat warm food. I came here to be pampered and served.
The same with chairs and umbrellas at the pool or beach, there is not enough for everyone. There is not adequate cooling in the main lobby where the evening entertainment is. Only slow moving ceiling fans which as so high they don't even cool anything down.
I am grateful for the sanitizing methods which all resorts should keep in place even without covid.
Covid testing for us was easy, waited about an hour to get called, but an easy process.
We will most likely return, after we visit the other 18 Bahia Principe resorts. Safe travels.
PS...Swim up rooms are awesome!!!
An Awesome Experience

Being a Privilege Club Member, it all started there. We were greeted with the blue Bahia Principe drink by James, quickly checked in by Dominique, then escorted to lunch. The room, Junior Suite Deluxe Swim Up, you could not have asked for more. Service was excellent. Our requests were immediately taken care of. The food was great; fruits in abundance; A La Carte Restaurants were 4.5 stars. My favorite restaurant was the Palmyra where Luis made sure I was taken care of. The COVID-19 protocol was excellent. Overall, we had a wonderful seven days that ended too soon on August 29,2021. Would I go back: Yes. Should you go; Do not tarry go and pack your bags and have an experience.
Staff extremely rude, awful service, too many inconveniences for a 2 night stay

Too many inconveniences for a 2night stay
-Check-in took 1 and a half hours
-We had no concierge follow up at the resort even though the concierge service was included, a guy took us to the room and that was it.
-At our dinner in Porto fino the Italian restaurant we waited for approximately 1hour, after observing people that came after us were eating we asked the server to check on what was going on and she came back to say there was a system error and our table was "cleared" meaning they had to put the order again, we ended up eating 15min after that and our pizza was cold when arrived.
-on arrival we asked if the hotel had any a la carte breakfast and the guy walking us to our room said no, still, we looked on the app and discovered brisas restaurant on the app which said the restaurant was open for breakfast until 12pm, we got thete at 10:35 and were told by Ingrid, the hostess that the restaurant was already closed, we headed down to the coffee shop assuming it was just an error on the app itself, next day we got there early but saw the same girl letting people in until 11am approximately, and said 11am was the closing time even though she wouldn't let us in the previous day at 10:35.
Our second day breakfast was a disaster as our omelette came with beard hair in it, they apologized but eating chefs hair is not something you're looking towards when going to a give star resort.
-at the same restaurant later on we tried to order a piña colada while having lunch and the lady said we had to stand and to across the pool to get a piña colada because they didn't have any at that restaurant in a really rude way. I feel like a " we actually don't serve piña coladas here" would've been more than enough as no body is going to cut off lunch to walk 500m for a piña colada.
-trough our notes on the reservation we specified we were traveling for our 7th anniversary and we didn't get a single amenity or anything besides the girl at the sport bar who tried to cheer up with a champagne for celebration.
Overall the staff was really rude and unprofessional, except for the sport bar, that actually felt like we were on a totally different resort.
Hope the hotel improves it's customer service as our anniversary weekend was really ruined by the awful service we got there.
Only reason we're not leaving a 1star tripadv review is because Yanilka at the sport bar and Rosa + desire at the pool bar were the only kind and gently people we got to meet during our stay, everybody else was either rude or lacked interest in asisting us in any type of way.
Room was sharp clean, that's something good to mention too.
Relaxed to the fullest

My wife and I stayed at the AmBAR in June of 2021 and realized that we made a great choice. From the Covid protocol and cool towel at our greeting to our departure at the end. We are going back in October. The desk staff were very accommodating and helpful, the groundskeepers, entertainment staff, bartenders,.... And the food... it was great, many choices, perfect omelettes, and waiters and waitresses we're great. We did not have shows at night that we were accustomed to, but later found that there were shows within the complex. Let me say thank you to Santa who took care of our room and was just incredible. The entertainers were energetic and fun to watch, sometimes I participated in golf or basketball sometimes not. No pressure. The goal was to relax and still have fun, that is exactly what happened. I wish I could remember all of the names, but here are some pics.

We have just returned from Ambar, and enjoyed the resort and the people here once again.
Our biggest takeaway from a COVID perspective was eased by the resort. They have expectations and enforce them. Masking in common areas and hygiene at the buffet (clear gloves for the guests to use) are enforced at all times, bringing a peace of mind to the process.
Albania (management) and Orlendy (butler services) are true ambassadors of the Bahia chain and Ambar in particular. Albania is constantly in contact with guests and staff throughout Ambar, displaying an effervescent smile at all times. Orlendy is very customer focused, and hands on with assisting the guests needs and concerns.
Canadian guests need the following information;
• Complete the Dominican eticket for arrival and departure, the QR code produced must be shown at both airports
• The ArriveCan app needs to be completed prior to return (you will need the eticket results, the PCR test results, and copy of both vaccines received in Canada)
• The $82 US test can be booked at the butler station using a QR code link. The test are done daily 9-12 so arrive early they are tested in order of arrival (bring a photocopy of your passport to make this process easier)
La Brisas is the buffet beside the pool, and it is a hidden gem. You can prebook times for an al a carte breakfast, and enjoy fresh cooked meat off the grill each day for lunch. The pace here is more relaxed than the main buffet or the beach buffet.
Finally we met numerous people that we enjoyed interacting with so a shout out to members of the Las Brisas staff: Doroteo (the smiling cleaner), Jovanny and Joan (the grill men), Maura and Christion (service staff), and finally to bartenders Enso (beach bar) and Carlos (sports bar).
Stay safe and enjoy!!
