We, four adults and two boys--8 & 6year olds, never been to this hotel before, and prepared for a load of below Scots in Rome for the Scotland V Italy 6 nations rugby match. Not one Scot ---just me. As for the hotel-- although old roman on the outside inside was well kept and really, really clean the bedrooms were modernist the shower was hot enough to take the skin off your back --if you like it so . The beds were perfect, we all commented on their comfort, hotel Giglio del Opera, we would stay there anytime. We highly recommend it
Stayed at this Hotel for three nights, excellent location for train station and bus tours, general decor dated, breakfast was dire, no choice with cereals or bread, just the cheapest bread with no choice or even a cooked breakfast, which you would definitely expect from a three star hotel, watch out for bag snatches and pick pockets as they hang around the streets outside, certainly not even a star rating compared with other places I've stayed at the same price in Venice.
By main train station
Good for our 1 night before the cruise. You can walk easy to the train station.Maria Church near by is a must. Very quiet a must for me and easy to find from our bus ride from the airport. Lots of small restaurants near also
All you need for active vacation in the city
First of all - great location, it is basically a city centre, Termini station is 5 minutes away, all the tourist attractions - 15 minutes, 40 minutes by foot to Vatican city. Secondly, the hotel had everything you need when you stay there just to rest after whole day in the city - comfortable beds, clean bathroom, breakfast. Towels were changed everyday although we did not ask for that, breakfast was more that I expected from an Italian hotel - sweet and savory bread, some meat and cheese, hard boiled eggs, tea and coffee. Staff at the reception looked kind of laid back and not particulary interested in their guests but as we did not need anything from them it was ok. Main disadvantage of our stay was that the room was on the first floor, facing the street and the window was not really soundproof. So we could hear very well tourists celebrating in the near by restaurants, trams going by in the next street and ambulance sirens.
A resonable hotel
I stay for 3 nights in november. First, is very close to evrything,5 min to termini, 15 min walk to colosseum. The area is full of restaurants and market. Is very safe to walk, i was travel with a 8 years child and was ok. Cleaning lady very good, clean in the room, breakfast even is the same, is fresh and enought to start the day. Hotel is old, that is true, but i recommend. Has more positive things than negative. And to be honest, you get what you pay.
