Perfect small hotel for our four night stay in Rome. Greeted by friendly and helpful staff upon arrival. Rooms and hotel in general are very clean. Location is perfect, walking distance to all main tourist sights and great restaurants nearby. Overall great value. I will not hesitate to stay here again on my next trip to Rome
Great location to explore Rome

Just be warned that the reception is at another hotel , 5 mins walk away. So go to the Hotel Teatro di Pompeo first.
Rooms were a good size and comfortable. Unfortunately the breakfast room is in the basement and while decor ir nice, it was cold and full of fruit flies. Not a great experience when eating your breakfast. The woman serving breakfast is lovely and very helpful.
Hotel is in a great location, surrounded by wonderful places to eat.
Great location, but sub par service and amenities

I hate to write this, because I had such hope for the Navona Essence thanks to these reviews. The best part of the hotel was the location. It is truly the best location in Rome if you are looking to see it all. You can easily walk within 15-20 minutes to the Spanish Steps, Vatican, Trastevere, Colosseum! Half a block from the Pizza Navona with the cutest daily market, where we got our fruit for breakfast!
We also had a spacious room with a balcony, which was nice, but that is really the only good i can say about this hotel.
I had reserved a prepaid "double standard" room for 3 nights, and when our plans changed and we wanted to spend an additional night in Rome, i reserved another pre-paid "standard double" room for the 4th night. When i checked in I explained to the lady this was the case, and she said "im sure we can just keep you in the same room" (which is WHY i booked the exact same type of room). However, the Navona Essense is not in fact a true hotel. It is essentially an airbnb with a cleaning service. The real hotel is a 5 minute walk (through cobblestone streets) on the other side of the Piazza. When you book at Navona, they indicate ("lie") that you have to check in at this other hotel after 4pm, which is when we arrived. But in fact there is never anyone working at the Navona Essense. For our first couple of days I intended on talking to the front desk person about our 4th night room, but no one was ever there (or ever is, it now appears.) We also tried to CALL the other hotel numerous times, but the phones did not work or we couldn't figure them out. So after night 3, as a courtesy, i stopped by the other hotel to let them know about this issue and the guy very rudely tells me i must pack up, check out, store my luggage at hotel #2 (i.e. drag luggage over chaotic cobblestone streets) then come back at 4pm and re-check in and drag bags back over. Not wanting to pack up everything, but conceding this issue, i said "why cant i store them at the luggage room at the hotel i actually paid for?" (Which again, is a fake hotel.) He claims its not his hotel so he doesn't know. I ended up demanding that we can take our luggage to the new room, even if it wasn't clean, which is what we did. Oh, and the new room was a loft with a dangerous staircase! Shouldn't one be warned of that? What if we had mobility issues???
Finally, I used credit card points to book this hotel, but it looks like the going rate while i was there was around $250-300/night, which is crazy outrageous for the service and quality. Rent an apartment instead at those prices!
Anyways, disappointed in our overall experience, which was only a minor blip in an otherwise fantastic trip to Rome!
Great location - big rooms

Stayed at Navona Essence for 6 nights the first week of September. We received an email almost a week before check in notifying us of a separate location to check in and pick up our room keys. It’s under a 5 minute walk, we were able to check in early, which was nice after a long flight. Rooms were very large by European standards. Bed was very firm and comfortable - we slept great. AC worked perfectly. Loved having an electric kettle in the room, along with a selection of teas. Breakfast was very nice. We ate each morning at 7 am. We were the only ones eating at that time. Lots of selections - meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, breads, pastries, fruit, yogurt, juices, and cereals. Emilia - I hope I’m getting her name right, was very pleasant and enjoyed talking with her each morning at breakfast. There is no one at the front desk. You can call them, but if you want to speak with someone in person you need to walk the 5 minutes to the key pickup location. Seemed like an inconvenience at first, but once we got settled we didn’t mind the few times we needed to make the walk to speak with someone. They were always very helpful.
We would absolutely stay here again.
Nice hotel but we were locked out as there was no reception staff on duty for our entire stay

This hotel should have been great but when we arrived we rang the door bell as we could see the reception through the big glass window facing the street but no one answered. After about 20 minutes fortunately two other guests came out and advised that the reception was at another hotel a couple of hundred metres away. We had not been told about this before arriving so had those other guests not told us we would not have been able to check in at all.
Once checked in we walked back and the air conditioning was not working but they repaired it the next day.
Breakfast was ok although we were the only ones there and the staff were out the back the whole time.
So it was basically like being in a hotel by ourselves. No staff or other guests in sight. Location is great but it would have been nice to have been welcomed or at least let in when we arrived!
Had we been on a later flight I doubt we would have known what to do other than get another hotel.
