Extremely disappointing and overpriced

Reviewed 4 december, 2022

We had a table booked but upon arrival were asked to wait in the bar as the previous diners had not finished at what would be our table. (We were a party of 4 adults and 4 children) Eventually we were asked to order drinks while we waited, I had looked forward to visiting here as their website boast ‘Great selection of local Real Ales’ I went to the bar to have a look at what they had and only two ale pumps had labels then as I looked the barman turned one label around and said they only had the one. Feeling quite disappointed I just asked for water, we were taken to our table and drinks were served… no water arrived so I went to the bar and just ordered a half of beer. The cost of the meals are quite expensive in comparison to other pubs which I do not find a problem with if the the food and service is good but it wasn’t! I could not see much that I liked on the menu as the pie of the day was unavailable so I just chose the gammon, I just asked if I could have chips and veg with it but was told I could only have chips or veg as a side and the second side had to be a sauce but I didn’t want a sauce so for £17 I had an average sized gammon steak and 5 or 6 oversized chips! I asked the waiter if the main menu pizza was bigger than the kids pizza to which he confirmed it was. All the meals came out at different times, we asked for the other gammon to be plain with just fries but it came with all the trimmings so had to be sent back then after all that they forgot one of the meals (the pizza) so that eventually arrived after everyone else had finished, and to my surprise it’s the same size as the kids pizza except almost double the price! So after what can only be described as a disastrous experience for us, as an apology they gave the children each a complimentary pack of biscuits (the kind that you get in a hotel room with the coffee and tea condiments!) Felt like more of an insult that an apology! Obviously we decided not to stay for dessert and asked for the bill!

Disappointing

Overall a disappointing stay. We were staying at this hotel in order to visit Peppa Pig World. Nice close proximity to the park. Rooms were clean and tidy. The food was generally good (when and if it arrived). On the first evening, we had an hour’s wait for food - which we didn’t mind! When the food arrived it was lovely. However on the second evening, we booked a table for 17.30hrs. It took 40mins for our food order to be taken. At 19.00hrs we were told that they had sold out of one of our meals before the likelihood of a further hours wait Luckily, Mc Donalds were only 3mins away from Mortimer Hotel!!! Whilst we appreciate it isn’t the waitress is fault, however her attitude and general attitude of staff were disappointing and appalling. We did observe others, on both nights of our stays, also complaining of the same!!!!

Fine as long as your not in room 6 or want to sleep

Reviewed 23 october, 2022

Hotel is right next to peppa pig world. Residents are as you’d expect- families and kids. Hotel allows dogs in restaurant. The above could be your thing or (as in our case) not. Room 6. Modernised and clean. Tiny sink. Small Mirror in bedroom. Here’s the problem… right above restaurant which has speakers playing music until 2330 and starting at 0638 (today) and 0700 (yesterday). Bass comes through walls and floors. Spoke to duty manager after first night. Made no difference. Small cooked breakfast (plain egg on muffin and 2x friend egg, 2 bacon & toast) took 35 mins on first morning. Am sure it’s all fine if you like dogs and / or peppa pig… are not on a deadline to get to an event..and sleep like a log or are not in room 6.

Lovely breakfast, friendly staff and good location for New Forest walks.

The location is very good for access to the New Forest and the motorway. Ideal place to stay for Paultons Park as it is literally next door. The hotel has a country style and garden area with seating at the front. The twin room we stayed in (Room 5) was a great size, plenty of room to move about and it overlooked the garden and road. The traffic noise was not an issue however, as the windows are not double glazed we could hear everything people were saying in the garden below. This was worse in the morning before breakfast when people sat out there smoking. The breakfast menu has a nice selection of hot items and there are also the usual cereals on offer. I had eggs florentine one morning which was cooked perfectly and delicious. The staff were warm and welcoming, especially when we locked our key in the room! The only aspect that lets the hotel down is the maintenance and cleaning issues. Whilst the room itself appeared clean when we entered there was dust on all the skirting boards and when I dropped something under the wardrobe there was no problem with it rolling away as there was enough dust under there to stop it in it's tracks. The bathroom was also dusty and there was blackened sealant in the shower cubicle, not very pleasant to see. We had twin single beds which were rather slimline and although both of us are quite slim we felt we'd roll out every time we turned over. The headboard on one had slipped from it's fixings on the wall and had taken paint off. i'm not dust adverse and have no problem with a bit of the stuff but I feel it did need attention. I would still recommend the hotel based on the location, friendly staff and great breakfast.
