In the heart of North Beach
We really wanted something unique and "of the area" and we found it. My sister and I got room 205 with two big beds - beautiful cotton sheets; extremely quiet. Fluffy towels and a great shower. Great B&W photos on the walls of 1950's era bohemian era - shots of the poets and musicians from the area. Right downstairs is my favorite restaurant in SF - Calzones. Of course cafes with espresso, pastries and sandwiches are everywhere.
A terrific time
Be prepared to walk up a narrow, winding staircase and enter a time warp. Hotel Boheme offers an experience of what a hotel was like in the 1950’s ‘beatnik’ era with a semi-Victorian look and photos of poets and artists who stayed there. The rooms are small and somewhat dark but are compensated by the excellent and helpful staff; the superb location for great food, bars and easy, lovely sojourns to SF past - Italian section, Chinatown (which is huge and fascinating and I’m from NYC) and City Lights bookshop. Restaurants are open late and there are always folks in the streets. The rooms at Boheme are excellent for a single or couple with sufficient amenities. Request a room that is not on Columbus Ave if you like it quiet. Sherry in the evening is a delightful extra touch. Had a great time and intend to return.
Love the Location
First time stay. Older hotel in old city but very nice. Clean. Great bed. Nice bathroom. Housekeeping spot on. Friendly desk staff. Hotel old around edges but adds to the charm. LOCATION! North Beach/Little Italy. And ChinaTown right around corner. Short downhill walk to waterfront. Cable Car or Uber/Lyft/Walk to Union Sq. We were in heaven. Breakfast is next door or across the street...no worries. Restaurants...Take your pick!!! Many great ones (Italan or Chinese). We had a street side room...we loved the noise...That said, come 1or 2am, boom...silence!
Hotel with Soul in San Francisco
I was in San Francisco this week for a conference. Instead of booking the usual big chain hotel i tried to fin something a bit more personal. Choosing Hotel Boheme was a decision I was very happy with. Check in was easy and the room was clean. The best aspect however is the atmosphere. This place has character and a history. The rooms are smaller than the usual however there is still plenty of room for luggage and sitting around. A couple would be fine in the room, and let’s face it you aren’t in town to stay in a hotel room all day. As other reviews have pointed out there are no tea and coffee making facilities but literally 2 steps outside the door and you are inside the Stella Pastry shop which is open all hours of the day and night. The hotel is surrounded by fantastic Italian restaurants and a very short walk to Chinatown if you desire something different. The location is perfect, being halfway between the main city Centre and shopping and the bay. The staff here are friendly and helpful. It is cold here at the moment, however even without using the heater in the room it was quite comfortable. it is a short walk to the City Lights bookstore which is a must do visit. I wouldn’t even look at another hotel for my next visit to San Francisco.
Great hotel in the heart of North Beach. It is quiet, with plenty of character and friendly staff and could not be better located for exploring the city. There are stairs to negotiate with no lift so maybe no ideal for everyone especially those with plenty of baggage. But I think seasoned travellers with a taste for someplace with its own authentic personality will really love this spot.
