Come for the view, stay for the breakfast and spa

Reviewed 3 april, 2022

It's really hard to fault this hotel. It is in a castle - yes, an actual castle! - overlooking the Rhine and the views are spectacular. The hotel has been very tastefully renovated and there is a free swimming pool, steam room and sauna. The breakfast buffet is incredible with multiple types of bread, meats, cheeses, muesli, fruit, fish, pate, hard and soft boiled eggs... in fact, pretty much anything you can think of! My only slight complaint is that the food in the evening wasn't very German but it is a very small complaint

Very Nice Hotel with Exceptional Views of the Rhein

Reviewed 18 october, 2021

The hotel is directly next the the Burg Rheinfels ruins and the reception, restaurant, spa, and some of the hotel rooms are housed in what used to be part of the Burg. Upon check-in, the lady at the front desk staff was very welcoming and pleasant. We were greeting warmly and she checked on whether it was possible to obtain a dinner reservation. Since there was no availability, she recommended another restaurant and made us a reservation. She then showed us to our suite. The suite was attractive and nicely furnished. Our room offered two large window with wonderful views of the Rhein. It was very nice to put the chairs in front of the windows and just watch the barges and river cruise boats float by. It was a nice walk down into town via a footpath near the vineyard. The hotel rooms are pet friendly. We were originally going to bring our small dog, but decided against it pets are not allowed in the dining area. However, the hotel provided bowl, treats, and a blanket for our dog if he had been with us. My only complaint was with trying to purchase a beer in on Saturday evening. My wife and I returned from dining in another establishment downtown around 1900 and I was hoping to purchase beer to take our room. Upon inquiring at the hotel bar, I was emphatically told by the lady who seemed to be in charge at the restaurant that getting a beer was not possible. She seemed to be quite annoyed that I asked and emphasized multiple times that obtaining a beer was not possible. I inquired at the front desk, which was right next to the bar, about getting a beer and was informed to ask at the bar. When I informed the front desk clerk that they wouldn't serve me, she offered to help. I said all I wanted was a beer to take to my room since I had drank the one beer that had been in the minibar the evening prior. She went to the kitchen and got me a bottled beer to take back to my room. The lady who told me that I it was not possible to get a beer seemed to be annoyed when she saw the front desk clerk go to the kitchen to get me a bottled beer. Other than that one incident, it was a very pleasant stay. I would recommend that if you wish to have a beer in the evening and you don't eat at the hotel restaurant, you might want to go to a store and purchase some beer to put in your room's minifridge, unless you wish to walk down the hill to visit one of the restaurants in town where they might be more accommodating to selling you a beer.

Nice place just opposite the Lorely

Reviewed 8 october, 2021

This “Schlosshotel” is built on the ruïne of an old castle. Just opposite the Loreley. Friendly reception. Nice room in the villa with balcony and lovely view on the Rhine. The menu of the demi pension is disappointing, the staff tried to compensate by offering after-dinner drinks. Breakfast ok. A pity that they failed with dinner.

Great Location, Great Hotel and Great Staff

Reviewed 30 september, 2021

My wife and I stayed at this hotel recently and we had a wonderful time. The hotel is truly a castle that has been tastefully redone as a five star hotel. The location is spectacular with tremendous views of the Rhine river and the surrounding countryside. The restaurant at the hotel is also very good and has panoramic views. The staff, particularly Denise the hotel manager, were very helpful and friendly. If you plan to visit the Rhineland / St. Goar area don't miss the opportunity to stay at this outstanding hotel.

Stunning location, above average facilitie, dogs are welcomed but in room but DOUBLE CHECK your bill.

Spend the last weekend of September at this hotel for an event so decided to combine it with my birthday celebration. Since the hotel's website is only availble in German it was more convenient to book via another international booking site. Hubby , kid and pooch checked in early while I attended the event. The room appointed was large with great view and even came with a complimentary doggy food and water bowls~very thoughful ! That evening hubby shared that he had prepaid for the room at check in ,it was then when I noticed that the total he paid didn't correspond to the confirmation I recieved. The next day I personally went to the reception to contest and got the same staff who issued the bill the morning before. I was going to point out that the additional child bed , which was charged at the cost of an adult bed, was included in the agreed room rate. The lady in question was already unhappy that I have a what she referred to as a "problem" with her initial calculation. Having the confirmation proof that the extra bedding is included she then reluctantly capitulated to give the refund. With nothing but good intention I offerred that she could make a copy of this confirmation I recieved through the 3rd party booking engine, she then immediately became offensive , starring me down and told me that why did I think that she needed that proof! No apologies offerred whatsoever for her miscalculation was bearly forgiveable but to be condescending and making the hotel guest feel like such a bother is so inappropriate in any hospitality business let alone an establishment which Schlossberg Rheinfels claims to be. Should I go as far as to believe that I was treated so because of my skin color (come to think of it I didn't see any other non-white guests apart from me ) ? She seems so pleasant when my husband was checking in! Despite the fact that the location was outstanding and the facilities were impressive (electric car charger was a big plus) , it goes without saying that there is a dim chance I would ever return. I only feel sorry for the behind the scene staff who did their time only for the front desk to let them down. For that I'm generous enough to give this place a "poor" rating rather than "terrible". Though in my opinion, how I was treated was just beyond terrible!
