Cocktails on the Veranda
Traveled to Santa Monica in mid-March to attend a wedding. Unfortunately, this is when the coronovirus was spreading rapidly. Just before the county shut down all the hotels, bars, and restaurants, I had the luxury of sitting on the Georgian Hotel's front porch right on Santa Monica's Ocean Ave (near the boardwalk) and having cocktails in the late afternoon with my girlfriend. The Georgian has a very popular Happy Hour where drinks are half price. The hotel is located only a third of a mile from the famous Santa Monica pier and the view is spectacular from the hotel. We enjoyed our cocktails while watching the constant flow of pedestrians and street traffic. The weather was really nice for a March day and the overall experience was quite pleasurable. I would highly recommend it.
Quaint and awesome location
The location of this place is almost unbeatable, delivering fabulous views out to the ocean and the wharf. We found the staff to be so friendly and welcoming and loved the quaint style of the hotel. It definitely wouldn't suit everybody as it has stayed true to its traditional style both in the decor and furnishings but for us that added to the experience, especially as the rooms were so grand and spacious! Our favourite element of the hotel was the restaurant. The food isn't cheap but sitting out under the heaters watching the world go by was a highlight. Thankyou so much for having us, we thoroughly recommend it!
Can’t beat location!
On a recent trip to California, I had the pleasure of staying one night at The Georgian....this Gatsby-esque hotel is situated right on Ocean Avenue thus affording a glorious, unspoiled view of the Pacific (which you can soak in from the hotel’s restaurant/terrace.) In addition, it’s location is close to great dining, the famous Santa Monica Pier and the Third Street Promenade shopping area. My family and I stayed in a suite which was comfortable, clean and nicely appointed, albeit a bit tired, ...noticeable wear and tear in many places would suggest it might be time for a freshen up, especially given the price range for this hotel. The hotel staff were professional and accommodating and I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to the area!
The floors were sticky and there was dust everywhere. The floors of the bathroom look dirty. Paint is chipping. Furniture is falling apart. Really gross. You can hear when other people are using the restroom. The place needs major renovations.
Art Deco Gem
My husband and I have stayed at The Georgian many times but this latest visit was our first in 7 years. Still many things to like about this hotel. Perfect location, incredible porch/veranda (a great place to dine) and overall, friendly, accommodating service. The restaurant is great, albeit pricey, but, after all, this is Santa Monica so dining (and parking!) is expensive. I do think the suites could use an update -- they looked pretty much as they had 7 years ago. Also, the wif-fi is really poor and that is simply not acceptable in a hotel which is as costly as this one is. Finally, there are "sensors" on everything having to do with the mini bar (including candy, nuts, etc.) which is a bit disconcerting. We were told -- "If you touch it, you've bought it, so be careful." Also getting ice was a major pain. You had to call room service, then be told they were "out of ice buckets" repeatedly. Get an ice machine, folks, so guests who want ice can get it themselves if you can't bring it to the room. The Georgian is a lovely hotel but needs a bit more effort to make it a great one.
