This place was such a treat from the standard hotels. Great care is taken for decoration and felt I was at home. Amazing original modern furniture, amazing staff. Bed was super comfortable. Thank you so very much!!!!

Cool concept; but just too many "fails" for me

Reviewed 8 december, 2022

I like the concept. Take an old motor lodge from 1963, strip it clean, install new wallpaper, windows, fixtures, appliances, and add new furniture and art, but with a retro feel. No need for carpeting; just refinish the cement floors. Turn the former central parking area into a nice garden/courtyard. Call it an "urban motel" and charge higher (but not outrageous) prices. But "ruh-roh", there were just too many issues for me at The Astro: -- Lobby was dark/closed at my my arrival (about 6 pm). I had to call a phone number, then wait for someone to show up. -- No coffee in the room. And no coffee served downstairs until 8 a.m. This is a major fail with me. A full star off for that alone. -- Multiple things in the room didn't work, including a few lights. The mini-fridge would not get cold enough (A good thing I had a small cooler and could get ice here). -- Speaking of temp issues, the water wouldn't get hot enough (perhaps I should call it the "Tepid Motel") -- It wasn't possible to black-out the windows very much, so I was up earlier than desired (see coffee issue above) It's too bad, because the Astro was a cute place in an excellent location; it was next to a nice park and was also a short walking distance to many downtown pubs & restaurants. I also did enjoy the kitschy vibe here. Tough to rate, especially since the place sorta grew on me over my two-night stay. But based on total price, and broken promises, it gets an "OK"

Know before you go…

It’s IMPOSSIBLE to sleep. There is nowhere to hang your clothes. Nowhere to get ready in the bathroom. The clients are reflective of the price point. If you are looking for somewhere to stay to enjoy wine country- keep looking.

Lovely room and location spoiled by service weakness

Reviewed 8 october, 2022

I stayed at the Astro one night over Labor Day weekend. Reserving was easy but confirming on the day of arrival was tough. Finally I reached someone after about 14 tries. Hotel is charming, I loved the restoration of the building and grounds. The room was everything a Mid-century lover would hope. The rate was very reasonable for the area. When I checked in they told me there was coffee in the lounge area in the morning. I woke up and around 6:45 went down to see if there was coffee yet. OK, no one was there. Went up to my room and the key card wouldn't work. No one answered the number posted on the office, or responded to messages. Over an hour later someone finally showed up and made me a new key card. I was completely polite and calm and just explained the situation. The person working couldn't even say sorry and turned their back on me the whole time. I waited a month to write this review to be sure I wasn't going overboard with my unhappiness over the service issue. In short. The staff needs to have better training and there needs to be a way for people with problems to get help. What if it had been an emergency situation? I would also recommend posting hours that the lounge is open.

Cozy Paradise

I booked this hotel for a girls trip and we had the best time. The second you walk in to the courtyard you're in another little world, it's really lovely. We booked four rooms, each of them was decorated differently, and beautifully. We're snobs about food and wine and the folks working the hotel led us to amazing places that aren't over run with tourists. Would stay here again in a heart beat!!!
