Capital San Pablo

We really enjoyed our stay here - after months of backpacking through campsites and hostels it was a real treat to have our own room, with a big comfy double bed, TV kitchenette and big private bathroom with toiletries and towels. The price was extremely cheap for what we got (likely due to the recent protests/riots effecting tourism in Chile) and all staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We even treated ourselves to room service and the breakfast buffet. The burger on room service was nice but the eggs at the breakfast buffet were pretty much inedible. We decided to fill up on cheese, bread and cereal instead. Lovely stay at great value - great location!

Basic hotel. Bed is comfortable. Clean and tidy. Close to tourist attractions. Safe and quiet area. I stayed here twice in room 615 and 916. The lifts are really slow so staying in a higher level was a bit frustrating. I had put the do not disturb sign on the door as I didn't want the room cleaned during my stay. However, this was ignored and housekeeping still entered the room. I reported that the kettle was not working and it was replaced promptly.

Twin rooms are ok sized, but the air conditioner is outside of the bed area, which takes up way too much time to cool off the room. Shower is also not great, can be very noisy during the night. Location is pretty good, but that’s about it.

I don't like to trash any businesses online. I'm just stating all the facts here. You travelers can be the judge yourselves. The 1 star I'm giving only goes to both the manager Aldolfo and the bell boy Alexandro. I'll explain below. I checked into Hotel Capital San Pablo around 10:45 pm on a Thursday night. I took out my passport from my backpack for the receptionist and put the backpack on top of my suitcase, which was standing right next to me. I leaned forward over the reception desk to sign a few documents, as requested. In a matter of seconds, my backpack disappeared. The whole incident was caught on the lobby's surveillance camera. I lost all my cash, credit cards (which I cancelled immediately), house keys, electronic devices, sunglasses and my whole wallet. The thieves tried to use my CC within 5 minutes. Luckily I received alerts from all my CC companies. Thank God I had my passport and cellphone with me. Filed a police report but frankly the police wouldn't care less. I wasn't able to get a copy of police report for my travel insurance claim after 4 days (hotel told me it would take 24 hours only). I guess the thousands of losses I suffered are solely on me. My understanding is that this kind of robbery has happened at this hotel before. It's beyond me that there's NO security guard onsite whatsoever! One star to manager Aldolfo as he was being understanding and professional. He comp'ed all my meals, & bought me a cellphone charger. And to bell boy Alexandro, I know how little money Chileans make comparing to Californians. Alexandro offered to give me 2,000 pesos of his own $ to keep. I declined but I was totally touched by his kind gesture. Now, to a few of their receptionists -- the only impression you gave me after I was robbed, was that I was intruding upon your busy schedules of using the lint rollers on your jackets, and chatting with one another. Ignoring me wouldn't make this issue go away. Had I not lost all my cash and cc, I would not have asked you for any help! I won't name names here. Based on my experience with their police, it's highly unlikely they will do anything. To Mr. Aldolfo, thanks again for your kindness and I hope you'll take the appropriate measure to make sure this tragic event won't happen to other guests... AGAIN! After a month in South America I was ready to return to Kuala Lumpur from Santiago on Emirates. Arrived at 1400 and had to wait for my room but luggage stored. left at midnight the following day and spent the day on the hop on/off tour of the city which was excellent. The studio room was small but comfortable with kettle, microwave and refrigerator.
