First day in Chile
Excellent location in Santiago, very reasonable rates and very friendly service. Our room was very spacious and clean. The style is a bit outdated but has it's charm. The bathroom reminds me of my childhood. Breakfast is served on the 7th floor which gives onto a very pleasant view.
Delightful 10th Return Visit
This is my go-to hotel in Santiago. It is like home. It is an older, traditional hotel. I love to book a suite. You can't beat the prices and the location is one of the best in Santiago in my opinion. The Santa Lucia/Lastarria area is the best place to stay - safe, centirc and charming, and plenty of restaurants. They've improved the breakfast.
Hotel is great for those on a budget. Very centrally located across from Cerro Santa Lucia. Latasarria area is around the corner and Plaza de armas and city cente 10 mins walk way. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful with english. Breakfast was ok, its not a buffet, but fine. Room is old fashioned and was cold the days i was there, in particular the bathroom. Shower was not great either. But plenty of blankets on bed!! All in all location hard to beat.
Kind, warm, well located and comfortable.
I stumbled into it upon my second day in Santiago when I knew I had to change neighborhoods from the party-zone Bella Vista to a quieter more suitable location and after reviewing four or five on the streets, directly by walking in and asking to be shown around decided that this was my place for the next two nights, the length of my stay in Santiago before leaving for Rapa Nui. I believe this neighborhood is the Zona Artiste where in some weird way, as an actor, I fit right in. The staff was patient, competent and kind, upgraded me the second night to a front facing suite and were as helpful and understanding as possible, my Spanish is limited but we made ourselves understood. I am usually a two or star traveler, it's my "comfort zone" when I'm paying and this cozy, castle by the park off a main drag was exactly my speed. If I ever return to Santiago (I could do without the Nazi memorabilia at the flea market) I'd come right back to Hotelara Foresta, no doubt.
A lot to like here
I stayed 5 nights in April 2018 while attending a conference at a nearby university. This small hotel has a worn feel to it--but I found it very clean, polite, and safe. There was a window AC and also radiators, but with the nice weather, I just opened the window or shut it as needed. Plenty of hot water and decent water pressure. I had a small suite with a sitting room, bedroom, and bath. I gave it five stars not because everyone would like it (it is not for luxury travelers or for travelers who prefer standard modern hotel rooms), but because it is a great deal and a great place to stay if you prefer "character" to standard modern hotels. 0 The location is excellent: near two city parks and a couple of universities, and an easy walk to a variety of museums, shopping, restaurants, etc.
